Okay, I know I fooled you all in part 2, but this time, something is up. It's not the motor, so don't worry about that... LOL
I blew that %*^*($& boot again yesterday, but this time, when I got home, there was oil coming out of it. Quite a bit, too. I think I've been hitting that turbo a little too hard with the hybrids. I guess that explains the boot suddenly blowing off easier. Didn't notice oil the last time it popped, but saw a lot this time.
I'll be out of town the next week or so, and I haven't had time to pull the intake off and check for play, but I'm assuming I lost the bushings or thrust bearing (or all). I'm thinking maybe it wasn't such a good idea to skip the balancing on the wheels/shaft ***'y, at least because I'm driving it a bit harder than some of you with them. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I'll be pulling the turbo when I get back to have a look at the internals. No noises like wheels hitting the housing right now, and I just got back from a several hundred mile round trip (after the first time it blew off). Not really what I wanted for Christmas, but maybe a turbo will makes its way into my stocking this year.
I have a couple pics, but they're still on my phone. I'll get them uploaded a bit later. Wanted to get this posted first.
Darn Joe, was thinking it was just a continuation of the part #2 thread but good luck. Not to jump to far ahead is the GTP38R or 42 on your wish list???

Reason: Bad spelling
I'm thinking 38r. Stock 1.0 housing for now, but I might put the 1.15 on it later. We'll see...... I don't have an outlet anymore for a stock turbo, so I guess I'll need to find one, correct? IIRC, the 38r doesn't have an outlet and you're supposed to use your own, right?
Joe, I think the 38R has everything. I keep reading mixed information about whether a stock turbo outlet will fit a 38R. I think if you go that route you're stuck with a 1.15.
Do you think maybe you are just pushing oil out of the intercooler that's just been sitting there? Didn't you just swap in a 6.0 intercooler? Just rambling, thinking you might just be getting residual from what was in there. I guess if you check the inlet side of the intercooler that might tell something.
The boot the keeps blowing is the one right at the turbo outlet, pre-I/C. My CCV is vented to the atmosphere, so that's not it. It HAS to be from the turbo.
I used my backplate from my stock turbo for the 38R, the back plate that gets hooked up to the wastegate, the 38R doesn't come with one. It did come with the 1.0 exhaust houing though.

The "backplate" as you call it is the outlet adapter. The wastegate is in the exhaust housing, the EBPV is in the outlet adapter. Dang. And I just realized I put a screw in the nipple for the wastegate solenoid. And I don't have a wastegate actuator anymore either. hmmm... Maybe I'll go with the 1.15 right off the bat. Easier than trying to get all that crap, and hooking it back up.

Thanks for the clarification Joe, its the wishamajig thingy in the back thing, lol. I would go with the 1.15 housing like Eddie said, your pushing more than me.

Don't sweat it Keith, I'm in the same boat as you..
