I have a Job 1 08 PSD with 21,000 mi. I've had zero problems for two years. Just yesterday, I noticed a whining noise that got louder when I turn the steering wheel. Guessing power steering problem. Anyone else experience this?
I think it's a sign of air in the system or a squeeky belt. Check both, turn the wheel lock to lock (in the dirt would be good) to try to purge air out. Watch the fluid level.
A bad pump would be a random thing and could happen to anybody.
hey i had this same problem it was whinning so i checked the resivoir and it was just below the fill mark and i mean just below so check that and add even if you neew a little bit, i did and it took my noise away almost immediately i would almost think that they put the wrong fill mark on the tank.
When I first checked the fluid, looked ok. After posting this, I rechecked, and the fluid was really foamy. I stirred it a bit, and it then was below the min. I added Merc ATF (as per owner's manual) and the whine went away. Thanks to all who replied.

Good question. There was no apparent leaks or seepage. I am on Ford's extended service plan for severe conditions, and I've assumed they check all vital fluids. My dealership has a good reputation, and so far I've been very satisfied. Any ideas?
I got on my creeper and looked everywhere under my truck and i couldnt find where mine dissapeared to either? all i found was a small leak around the crankshaft sensor that im not to worried about
