I've gotten my tank off and reached up in there but I'm kinda confused on what to cut. Is it the smaller line that runs up next to the filler neck? And what is the second line that people argue as to whether it needs to be cut or not? Thanks in advance.
Cut both of them...the large one is the filler tube, the small one is the vent tube which, if you don't cut, the fuel will foam back up to the filler opening through that and shut off the pump prematurely.
If you want to increase the tanks capacity, cut them both. If all you care about is the foam, just cut the vent (smaller one). Personally I cut them both.
I cut only the vent tube. It works well w/ only this one cut. I guess there is no reason to not cut the fill tube, but no need to either.
I ended up just going ahead and cutting them both, but I still got a problem. I made sure to put the sending unit back in the correct slots, but the guage is still reading way too much fuel. Why might this be?
Thanks everyone for your help. The removal and reinstallation of the tank went way smoother this time than my previous attempts, with the exception of this stupid fuel guage.
I have Jaguars' (that's the JAGSKI) and in a fender bender the fuel shuts off. the button resets it --may be the same on this, I used to use the switch as a Polish(JAGSKI) security system. Do you think that you may have nicked one of the fuel guage wires, I nicked mine where the wires go into the white clip on the tank cap. Maybe one of the guys can give you info on checking with an ohm meter at the plug on the frame rail. Congrats- your now a professional tank harpooner.

Don't have an ohm meter but I'll see what I can do.
What is the fuel reset button on the passenger side kick panel for? What does it do? Would it help my issue?
Alot of Fords have these, they are safety (inertia) switches to shut off fuel flow in the event of impact. Keep this in mind, I have saved alot of owners a tow bill by flipping that switch after they entered a driveway apron too fast!
I wouldn't get to heavy into diagnosing your fuel sender until you have completely filled up and run a full tank of fuel through it. The PCM plays games with the fuel gauge on these trucks, and it may just need to relearn the level limits. Filling up completely right now will also let you make sure you don't have to take the sender out again due to a leaking bung.
