team mud .. all i did is remove the door panels and "rip" out the old speakers and replaced them with the new ones. everything lined right up i didnt take pics cause i forgot about this site for a year ( my bad excursion gods) yes i remounted them in the existing holes ... if your having doubts just pull a pannel off ( its easy) and look .......bye the way i paid best buy to do the very rear speakers cause that's was a **** lode of panel ( lol) it is a bitch for me to do the very rear ones . my amp is located on the floor on the 3rd row so as to be concieled when folding flat the seats . i could not but it under the 2nd row seats as thats where my vcr and dvd player is located. trust me it rocks i ended up soldering the wires together for all the speakers so no loose connections weee just listing to it to day and i LOVE IT ..
I haven't tried it yet, but Best Buy told me about a company called Metra that makes a speaker adapter with the tweeter mount built on the adapter. This will be my next project after the headstuds, as my diesel tech told me, not to go overboard on the engine mods.
my local home theater/car audio store said to get the boston SL80's its like a 5" cone and a tweeter built on a 6x8/5x7 panel. they said it sounds better then the infinity's and a little better then the alpines. I have not listend to them yet so I dont know. Also I cant find SL80's on boston's website but they have SR80's. I emailed boston about the differance. Unfortunatly I know diddly about car auido. I just do home auido.
Actually, the stock head unit, is not that bad at all. If your just replacing the speakers, its will be a very good upgrade over the OEM stock peices that are about 6 years old for both of you actually. You cant go wrong, and If you decide to get a higher brand mid driver, there is no such thing as underpowering a speaker. You are just gaining longevity of the speaker. And when you decide to update the Head Unit, you already have the speakers that will be able to succesfully produce a great sound with both the OEM unit and aftermarket.
Disagree - If you play an amp/head unit beyond its limits, then you will square wave the amp/overload causing massive distortion thereby possibly damaging your tweeters & other by overheating if you replace with good quality speakers..

Just bought and they are very good. Clarion head unit under drives them so i got a GT-42 BA amp to eventually install. Not as efficient as stock. so i had to turn down JL Audio sub system. They need at least 35W. My head unit also has 1% THD on amp specs which is unacceptable.
SL80 up front, S 5x7 in rear door & disconnected rears b/c no one could tell me ohm load. Ohm load to head unit w/ all 6 speakers. Door & rear speakers are wired in parallel I assume. Now w/ amp I can put S 5x7 (35 watt) in rear just for SPL

I never said anything about over playing an H/U or an amp? What is the main reason for speaker damage? Distortion. My years as a mobile elctronics installer explained to me that basic tidbit of knowledge many many years ago. I plainly stated that underplaying a mid driver or full range loudpseaker will do no damage to a speaker. I was merely stating the loudspeakers, nothing about H/U or amplifiers.

did you have any interference with the window rolling down and the basket/magnet of the polk 6x9 in the very front doors (drivers / passenger doors)?
i will definitely check it out when i get a chance!! i was always under the impression that if the magnet was to deep in the door, you ran a possibility of interfering with the function of the window rolling up and down, BUT maybe that is with the F150?
My bad - you stated "there is no such thing as underpowering a speaker". In my experience, when speakers are upgraded and powered by a H/U, one does not get the same volume as the OEM. Most people will turn the volume up to compensate and clip H/U causing massive distortion and we know what that will do. Sorry 'bout the communication breakdown.
