Speaker fitment?

looking to buy the wife some new speakers for her Ex. Will 6.5" or something else replace the 6x8 holes easy? I have yet to pull door panels to see what it looks like in there, but I did find a set of 6x8 components that would work.

What have you replaced the stock junk with? Her's sounds like crap right now.

I used this company when i bought my 6.5" components, im mounted the 6.5 mid drive in the door, and the tweeter on the plastic on the door that covers the sideview mirror bolts on the inside.

6x8/5x7 to 6½" Speaker Adapters Ford Excursion 00-06 - eBay (item 320450145639 end time Dec-16-09 19:32:34 PST)

And I used RE Audio components, cost me about 150.00 for the components. I replaced all the 5x7's in the rear doors and the rear cargo area with new RE Audio full range 5x7's and have an RE Audio SEX12 being pushed by a US AMPS 5 channel amp.

I like those. I'll have to get a pair when I redo my stereo. I was wondering how I would do the rear door speakers. Not all screw holes are the same if you know mean. anyone that has taken the rear doors apart will know.

Been there, done it, those adapter plates allow the use of the 5x7 or 6x8 existing holes, biggest reason i went with them, There were no other holes to drill into. And they fit perfect. Good Luck....

Infinity components for $200 a pair times 4 pair plus $180 for Q-forms kick panel enclosures equals almost $1000 before I buy the $1000 Alpine dvd player and $500 GPS unit. Amps, possibly a sub or two which means more amps. My last stereo system was $3000 total. this is gonna kill me.

Actually, the stock head unit, is not that bad at all. If your just replacing the speakers, its will be a very good upgrade over the OEM stock peices that are about 6 years old for both of you actually. You cant go wrong, and If you decide to get a higher brand mid driver, there is no such thing as underpowering a speaker. You are just gaining longevity of the speaker. And when you decide to update the Head Unit, you already have the speakers that will be able to succesfully produce a great sound with both the OEM unit and aftermarket.

Thanks BigRy. I picked up some BA 6" components with the adapters for the front right now. Gotta wait till the wife opens them for Christmas before I can put them in and see what they sound like.

Still waiting to see if I need injectors before repalcing the rest of the speakers.

What infinity's were you looking at? I was going to get the w505 from alpine and the remote gps from them. I was looking at the kappa 682.9cf's for the doors and rear but i always hear people saying to run 6.5's over 6x8's I wont be running a sub or amps except maybe that alpine power pack if I need it. I also dont really want to remote mount any tweeters.

I just bought the bride three sets of Focal coax speakers on ebay for around $165 each...btw the JL audio G6600 is a GREAT amp(under $300) and it puts out 75 watts x 6. I also have the jl audio stealthbox (bought used for $250) and a g max amp(under $400) putting out 600 watts x 1. Thats a dang cheap setup that will sound kick butt! May I recommend the new JVC ead units that came out...they have a bunch of great features for under $700(bluetooth, nav, sat radio ready, hd radioready) So shop around and remember ebay, and craigslist is your friend!

This is a sample of my speakers on ebay:

JVC Headunit...compare the features, this thing rocks!

i replaced all my door speakers with JVC 6.5 2 way coaxial speakers. i made my own adapters (had the material handy at the time), and mounted them in the 4 doors. i ended up taking the very rear 6x8's out. if you don't want to worry about mounting tweeters, then get a coaxial pair of speakers that have the tweeters mounted in the center of the speaker. if i was to do it over again i'd go with polk, or kicker 6.5's instead of the JVC's!

i kept my sony x-plode head unit from my last truck, so i replaced the OEM head unit with the sony (mainly for the mp3 plug in). i'm not going for a show truck so the sony works out fine for me.

then i have two POLK 6x9 MOMO's in the rear in a box. these were an afterward add on, and they sound really good with just the head unit powering them, EVEN BETTER with a good amp pushing them. the polks are 300w peak/100w rms per speaker, and they will handle it trust me! but i have the box setting right behind the second seat (i don't have a third seat right now).

over all it sounds A LOT better than oem speakers. i got he JVC's from wally world, and the POLKs off ebay. but like i said, i'd get a different set of 6.5's the next time.

the reasoning behind getting a round speaker over a oval speaker is there is less distortion with a round speaker (from what i've read and understand), BUT the level of distortion at the edges of the oval speaker won't make that much difference to the average person. for a bolt in fit, there are plenty of 5x7/6x8 options between polk, kicker, infinity, JL ect.....

i was leaning to infinity beacuse in my dodge ram it came with them and sounded good. Bass was good enough too for the classic rock I mostly listen to. I replaced those with quart qsd 216's. Looking at quart though considering the price of there "top of the line" is now 1/14th of what the QSD's were I think they must no longer make the high end stuff they made before. Since I dont follow car audio much I thought I'd get something I was resonably sure would work. the truck had 6x9's and I dont know how that would relate to putting 6x8's or 6.5" coax in the excursion

ok i gotta ask for some pics. i checked your gallery didn't find any. and when you say "ALL" did you remount the 6x9's in the existing 6x8 holes?? or did you make custom mounts? the reason i ask is this is some what along the same lines, but still not sure yet.

i have a couple sets of speakers sitting on the shelf. i have the 6x9 polk momo's in the Ex right now, and a regular set of polk 6x9's, and a set of regular 6.5's as well. ran across some decent deals couldn't pass them up, just havn't used any of them yet. i think i have about $75 tied up in all 3 sets of speakers.

i also have a F250 CC that is in the need of some speaker upgrade so that is why i've acquired a selection of speakers too.
