New Guy with my first Ford

Hello,
Just wanted to introduce myself and my first ever ford pickup. I picked up a 1990 F150 the other day for $1300. The truck has the 302 in it, odometer reads 72k but I have no idea if it is 72 or 172k. Previous owner installed a set of trick flow headers on her. Is there a way to tell?

So far all I have done to her is topped off the tranny fluid, changed the oil, cut off the old mufflers (replacements on the way) added lots of coolant along with breaking off the old locking fuel caps so I could fill her up.

I have been doing tons of reading on here the last few days, but with so much information on here sometimes it is hard to find some things. I have a few general questions, and if there are already some good threads on them I would appreciate being pointed in the correct direction.

Is there a way to tell of the odometer has already rolled over the 100k mark? The first few days of driving the truck, it would randomly die, no sputtering or anything. The truck would just shut off but if I waited 45 min the truck would start right back up. Just some bad fuel?

Thanks guys
Alex

The registration says 72k on it. Either way I like the truck. She needs a little tlc here and there, but so far so good with her.

Bad fuel won't go away after 45 minutes, look for a bad coil or ignition module.

Welcome to the forum Stovetop!

Here are some pics guys. Paint is a little rough. Goal is to re paint her myself this spring/summer once it warms up out here some.

She no longer has the goofy red seat covers, and I took out the blue center console. I am going to pick up some black seat covers and make my own center console.

Ill look into the coil and ignition module. Goals for this week are to get new plugs in her, a new fuel filter, get the new mufflers put on and pipe ran, and finish cleaning out the inside.

Sounds like your TFI module is getting hot and going out on you
simple fix but you need either a special tool or a long nose socket (8mm I think?)
to take it off

^ I will have to do some reading on the tfi module. It for sure has lived the life of a truck. The console that was in there was a really weird shade of blue. I am not sure what exactly I will do, but I was thinking about making something that had doubled as a sub enclsure for a 10" speaker. Who knows. That little bit of back seat sure is uncomfortable though. I cant imagine riding back there for more than about 30 min.
