my truck shakes pretty violently when taking off, seems to be worse with the trailer,
if i let off the clutch really fast it doesnt really shake, but i cant always do that.
any ideas
all steering, shocks, ball joints, rear leafs replaced within last 60days or so.
i also have a south bend clutch, about 8-10 monthes old , prolly has 40-50k on it
Is the clutch fully out? Is it as you are letting the clutch out? Only in first gear? Give us some more info and someone will have something to go on for you.
I just had my clutch replaced this week on my 1999 7.3. The same thing was happening. I also noticed a scraping noise coming from the transmission if I had to hit the brakes hard. Found out a couple bolts were missing from the transmission housing. The clutch definitely needed replacing. I also had a leak from the rear seal. No more shaking.
The starter sounds much better when engaging.
No, it felt like it was the transmission. When I first noticed the shaking, I had to start out in 1st gear to get going. The shaking didn't happen after get up some speed. But again, I heard other noises that definitely told me there was a flywheel problem.
When I had the work done, the mechanic also told me there was a type of linkage that ties in with the turbo that had come disconnected. I have noticed it's been a year since the turbo wouldn't kick in like it used to.
They put in the heaviest clutch available and I notice a huge difference putting the clutch to the floor now. I think it was a matter of time before something else would have happened.
But the shaking was very frustrating. It didn't matter if I was towing or not.
Is this shaking that you describe that "bunny hop" that sometimes happens at the point of engagement for the clutch?
Or is it after your foot is off of the clutch pedal and the clutch is fully engaged?
I see you replaced your rear leafs, did it raise the rear of the truck any? When I put an add-a-leaf in the rear of mine I had the same shake when taking off, I shimmed the carrier bearing 1/2 inch and it went away. I am assuming your truck has a carrier bearing though. Just a thought, greasing the splined shaft may help also.
