Yup. and before i search did you switch the rear brakes to disk? cause im already going ot have to redo all the brakes and what not but what will it take to put disk in the rear?
Freakboy, if you are looking to switch the rear to discs, The old school way was to find a Ford 9 inch out of either a Ford Granada or a Lincoln Versaile. Both came with rear discs as an option, and anti slip rear ends.
No, our brakes are still drum on the rear. We have around a 1975 Lincoln Mark 4 or 5, not sure wich, but it has factory rear disc brakes on it. Thought many times of swapping them over to the truck as well.
If i cant do that i will have to talk to a few freinds and see if they have any... i would also like it to be a posi there any way i could make mine a posi? or would it be easyer to get a new rear end?
To make yours a posi you have to change the differential housing over. To buy a new one would be very pricy, best would be to find a posi carrier and swap it into your rear end. Make sure you get one that has the same spline axles that you have. Should be either 31 or 28 splines.
There may be some swap kits out there. he Granada/Versailles swap is pretty straightforward, and fairly in expensive. If you just need a rear swap for posi, there are alot of folks out there offering the parts. NumberDummy can give you a pretty good idea if you have a 31 or 28 spline. Of course, udo a couple of bolts and you can count them for yourself.
Alright well when i get the truck in the shop i will have to take a closer look at things. im not sure of a few things my rear axle and my transmision. its a 3 speed with over drive and reverse is all the way to the left and up. any idea what it would be?
I've heard of people cutting a few coils off of the front end and taking one or two leaves out of the rear. but personally, I'd go with the kit. I want to get a 2wd shortbed with a v8 and do this. Were as i have my shortbed 4x4 i'm lifting. lol
