alcohol for fuel

Quick question.
I used to make biodiesel for my diesel truck, I no longer do.

This leaves me with a 55gallon drum of methanol.
Can I run this in my f100 with a 302? I wouldn't do it straight, probably only 15%-20% alcohol per tank.

If it's a problem, or even questionable I'll just try to sell the methanol locally, but I'd prefer to just use it up.

thanks,
Drew

Might be tough on some rubber and aluminum parts.

I wouldn't put 15-20% in, maybe just a little each tank if you must.

I'd also do a quick mix test by adding a bit of the methanol to a glass of gasoline to see if they mix properly. Your methanol should be absolutely dry if it worked to make biodiesel, but if it got moisture in it in the meantime it might not mix with the gasoline.

I used to add one part in 25 of methanol to the gas in my old car years ago when I got bottled methanol cheap. It seemed to do no harm, and it reduced knocking, allowing me to advance the timing a smidge. The car had a glass fuel filter bowl over the engine, making it easy to see if there was phase separation in the fuel (and easy to dump out any water that accumulated in it).

seperation.... hose disintigration....
well I better not.

I work offshore, and am gone for a month at a time. I'd hate to have that sitting in the fuel lines. Same reason I stopped using biodiesel.

thanks for the help,
Drew

Since you will be leaving the vehicle sitting, I agree with you to not add the alcohol. I make a point of not using gasohol type fuel for lawn mowers, saws etc. because they tend to sit idle for long periods, allowing time for the alcohol to work its magic on the lines etc. and absorb moisture from the atmosphere.

start at about 10% to 15% and steadaly work your way up because if you just dump a bunch in it will clean all the junk left over from gasoline and cloage up your fuel filter. start low and work your way up.
