so i heard, if you replace the exhuast to the blower ( if that's what it's called) -the deal on the passenger side, comming from the turbo ??? with a larger pipe, it really brings the truck to life ? anybody heard bout this also and could possibly elaberate on it ? thanks.
ps...i have a large tendency for making up parts. sorry !
If by blower you mean downpipe, muffler, or CAT, then yes. If you upgrade the downpipe from the factory 3" to a 4"(larger pipe) it does make a difference. Of course if you had a 4" downpipe you would need an entire 4" exhaust system. You could skip that if you are strapped for cash and just delete the muffler and cat if you have one and getting a piece of pipe welded in there. This will not necessarily bring the truck to life, but it will let it breathe better and that's pretty important. Hope that answers your question.
We have a turbo, not a blower, but there is maybe a little seat-of-the-pants feel to a 4" exhaust, but it really makes a difference on the EGTs. That's important when you chip it later...
right, i have a straight on mine. but the exhaust downpipe is conected to the headers, and the headers to the heads right ? i think what i'm refering to is that left pipe that goes from the turbo to who knows where. i dunno if it ties into the exhuast or what, alls i know is i was told that to make that pipe bigger would bring the truck to life. but maybe i or the other guy didn't know what were talking about ??
No. We have exhaust manifolds, not headers. And they are connected to two up-pipes that goes to a collector, which connects to the turbine (exhaust) housing on the turbo. Once the exhaust spins the wheel in the turbo, it comes out the passenger side and connects to the down-pipe. That connects to the rest of the exhaust system, like any other vehicle. Most of us go with a 4" turbo back system, but some like the sound of the 5" (which has a 4" down-pipe that flares out to 5" for the rest of the run). It's up to you which way you go, but 4" is cheaper, sounds really good, and is plenty. The 5" has a different sound, but not much, and can be a PITA to install in some cases. I like my 4" system, FWIW.
