old76er, you can use any 73-79 tailgate for your style of bed. No other years will work.

I've heard 67-72 tailgates fit and latch, but don't match the body lines. I'm not sure about 80-96.

Can anyone tell me how to get the tailgate off my '79 and I can try a '84 tailgate I got laying in the yard. I can get the 80's tailgates off no problem, but I don't know how the '79 works.

67-72 tailgate will fit, but as was mentioned the body lines don't match. You need to take the bolts out of the lower tailgate pivot on the side of the box to remove it on the pre1980 pickups.

Looking at the video in this thread, it looks like a Dodge tailgate will work as well

Since the 1964/66 F100/250 2WD Styleside tailgate is essentially the same as 1967/72, and uses the exact same hardware as 1967/72, it will also fit.

In fact, in September 1966, Ford obsoleted this 1964/66 tailgate (C4TZ9940700A), replaced it with the 1967 (1967/72 C7TZ9940700A) tailgate for use as a service part replacement.

Ok! We got '64-'79 so far. How's that for interchangeable parts! Rain tomorrow, maybe I'll try to fit the '84 tailgate Sun or Mon. It looks like it'll work though. Thanks #dummy.

One thing that you should know: The hinges between the 67-72s and 73-79s are different sizes and so make sure you get the right ones! I just found out the hard way. All the other hardware will fit though.

It isn't that they are different sizes, but the mounting plate is just thicker than the dentsides.

I am running a 67-72 tailgate on my truck. I haven't painted it yet, but I scalloped the lower edges to match the taillight indentations on the bed. No big deal and it looks fine.

Well, I just pulled some hardware for my tailgate off of a 67-72, and the hinges don't fit into the hole on the tailgate (tailgate is a 73-79), the diameter of the round part of the hinge is too large. BTW, the hinges I got off the 67-72 look like the ones on the left in your picture. 73-79 hinges might work on a 67-72, but not the other way around.

The hinge on the left is a dentside the one onthe right is a bumpside and they both are the same diameter. Not sure why you are experiencing something different, but I have 10 sets of each style pulled from various trucks.

I put a Dodge tailgate on my f100 75.
Easy as a Peace Cake or what you in the USA use to say

Check out the brown f100 copper coloured tailgate [URL="http://www.swedenoffroad.com/sv/reportage/TT_ATV_Vanga-Kristianstad_2009-11-08.html"]http://www.swedenoffroad.com/sv/reportage/TT_ATV_Vanga-Kristianstad_2009-11-08.html[/URL
