DIY Advice

Can anyone suggest the easiest way to get to that last spark plug on the passenger side on an 01 Explorer with the 4.0L V6? That darn AC box is in the way, and my arms are too big to fit. I though about dropping the exhaust manifold, but I'd rather not. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I haven't done much on the V6 version, but the 4 plugs on the passenger side of my former 2000 Mountaineer V8 were quite easy from the wheel wells. The four on the driver's side were easy from the engine compartment.

FWIW, all 8 on my 2004 V8 are simple, the easiest I've ever experienced on a V8.

Flex head ratchet through the wheel well. I sometimes remove the trans dipstick for more room as it only takes a few seconds.

Yeah, just get a 3/4" racheting box end wrench with a swivel head. It slides right over the hex head on a spark plug socket.

Thanks for the suggestions. Taking off the wheel well and going in that way was the easiest.
