p1316-again

So last night I'm at a stoplight, and the truck starts running really rough. Pretty much the same symptoms as three weeks ago when I replaced the passenger side vc gasket/wiring harness, and soldered on a new plug.
I got home and sure enough-p1316 code.
When I started it to pull in the driveway there was a bunch of smoke.
I plugged in the block heater. (to make starting easier this morning)
This morning I pulled the drivers side plug and tested the ohms.
This is what they read:
G-0 to1 with a tone
G-0 to 1 w/tone
I-3 w/tone
I-3 w/tone
C- didn't know what to do there
I-3 w/tone
I-3 w/tone
G-no tone
G-0 to 1 w/tone
I just started it and it fired right up,but is running very rough. When I pushed the peddle down its hiccuping and hesitating pretty bad.

I'm assuming that since I didn't replace the driver side harness, that that's it.
But since the only problem I saw was the one glow plug-I didn't want to tear it apart until I got some input from you guys.
Thanks,Ron

How exactly are you testing the pins? The G pins should be ohmed against a ground. The I pins should be ohmed against the center C pin, not against the ground.

If you replaced the passenger gasket and wiring, what plug did you have to solder on? Did you get the updated harness or shims for the passenger side when you put the wiring back together? I'd do the ohm test on both sides to be safe.

Cris-
I tested between the I and C,and got 3 ohms. I ran from the G to the neg side of the batt.
The gasket/harness kit I bought had a new pigtail with male end. We had to solder that to the harness in the valley
Here is a link to my other thread:

I did the 25 cent mod-I should have checked the driver side, too.
I'm gonna go to the shop now and take it apart tonight.
Hopefully it wont die on the way there.
I will definitely check the passenger side again!

Just to be on the safe side, you mentioned replacing the harness / gasket and soldering on a connector.

Does this mean you replaced the

1)wiring harness under the valve cover that comes with the plug that plugs into the pass through connector on the valve cover gasket

2) valve cover gasket, and

3) soldered the plug onto the wiring in the valley that connects outside the valve cover gasket?

Yes to all three.
Just got done removing the driver side cover. The plug is toasted.
There were two glow plugs that were bad. One was totaly bad and the other one was bouncing all over the place.
Tomorrow I will go buy another gasket/harness/plug and two glow lugs.
We will have to solder another male end on this side, too.
Another $150.00 I'm sure.
I sure hope this is it for a while. My wife calls my truck the "beast of burden".
I'm really greatfull for you guys on this site. You have helped me save hundreds on repairs.

The G terminal that gave you no tone is either a bad glow plug or the connector under the valve cover came off.

Yup. I guess it shorted out and melted the plug.(??)
Funny thing though-the "burnt" part of the plug was at the top,and the bad glow plug was toward the bottom. And the plug was plugged in tight.
The other plug I'm replacing was right next the dead one. I'm replacing it because it "ohm ed" all over the place.
