I have a 2000 ranger 4cyl it is idling high while shifting gears. I changed the idle control sensor o2 sensor. did a tune up still no change also vents air only while not accelerating. While accelerating no air vent. checked vacum lines appears to be good could these two problems be connected. Am I missing a issue with vacum????? Please help ..........
you'll get a better chance of getting an answer in the ranger forum than here
but
haven't had an issue like this but it seems like a vacuum issue have you checked the vacuum line coming off the intake if so do you have access to an OBD2 tester to see if there is a code my 84 f150 had something similar but it was affecting the brake system turned out to be a intake manifold leak on one of the cylinders. hope this helps
My 96 4 banger never had the high idle while shifting problem but then again it was a manual and there is no need for the engine to idle down during the short time it takes to shift. I did have the air vent issue though once it got older. It only happened when the engine was under a heavy load, which on a 2.3l driving 30" at's was anytime you went up a hill or tried to pass or pull a trailer. I just figured it was due to lack of engine power and has somethin to do with the vacume created under such a load. But hey at 230,000 miles i was happy the a/c worked at all.
