I have the Retrax. I like it because I can open the bed when I need to, and close it the rest of the time. That way you can tow a 5th wheel or gooseneck with the cover open, and once unhitched you can roll it closed and lock it.

But if it wasn't for the towing, I would go with a solid fiberglass lid like a Leer. I think they look nicer and are more durable.

Truxedo Lo-Pro for me. Love it. Velcro sides and latching back, easy to open and close. Good bang for the buck, especially since I bought it used for $150

I have a A.R.E. Fiberglass cover. I love this cover, they look great and you can get them to paint match your truck. It is very easy to take off when needed. Look at your local craigslist, the guy I bought this from gave me the reciept. He paid $1,100 for it and I bought it for $250. Hope this helps.

I have the Extang Tough Tonneau, vinyl cover.

had the Black Max on my F150.

when I had a hard cover, it never failed that I needed to pick something up, and had to go home to drop off the cover and then go back. since the soft cover, its been great.
roll it up, and unroll

These questions really should start with whether you want a hard or soft cover. Soft just would not flip my switches, but others like them. And then to others, a "bed cover" means camper shell. So there you go.

i would not buy a leer i think they are junk. i have had 2 different one's on 2 different trucks came with trucks. have had nothing but problems, like shifting side to side and the opener pices hook on the truck side and you have to get a pry bar so you can open thetail gate then crawl in and unbolt the other piece off the truck side.and another major problem i always had was the support shocks went bad and when they do the front jumps out of the j channel and smaks the cab i have scratched my window plus scratched the paint good on one side.just my 2 cents.

I would LOVE a hard cover.. like the look. but when I had one, I was always driving home to drop it off.. or NOT picking up whatever it was.. TV, engine, toolbox..
my 06 F150 with the tall bedsides wasn't as bad.. but with the dually, you can't put much of anything back there without pulling the cover.

I HATE planning my travels.

I hear you. That's exactly why I went with the rolling hard cover. But I do hate how much bed space I lose, and I don't know if I could deal with it if I had a short bed truck.

I have an older extang with the snaps on mine. Hate the snaps, but like the fact the bed is covered if I want to throw some stuff in there and it is out of sight. I also like that I can roll it up out of the way if I need to put something big in the bed. It doesn't use up bed space and when I need to hook up to the 5th wheel it takes just a few seconds to roll it out of the way. I bought the cover cheap otherwise I would go with the velcro or some other snapless type of soft cover.

I have a hard fiberglass cover and is is great to be able to lock the cover and feel that things are secure. It is a pain when you have to haul something big,but for me the cover is nice. It really depends on how the back of the truck is used. If you haul a lot of big items go with a vinyl or the retractable hard top. If you don't the hard cover is better.

I just ordered the Bak Flip Folding cover for my truck after using it on my Uncles truck. Takes up zero bedspace and can be taken off easily also.

yeh, snaps were a pain on the black max, but the tough tonneau uses a new non-snap non-velcro closure..

I was thinking this topic was going to be more "fluff" but you guys gave me some food for thought . I do like the looks of a hard/glass shell better but the coments about having to remove them before using the bed makes me stop and think .

Good info , SxS
