Radiator Support--Help

The two carriage bolts that hold the radiator support to the frame on my truck are beyond use. I have tried to find them in catalogs, and I even went to a local fastener company but have been unable to find them. Does anyone know where I could get them?

Thanks,
Scott

Ford parts catalog calls for a 7/16-20 x 2 1/2" bolt. You may not find one that looks 100% exactly like original, because styles and manufacturers have changed things a little, over the years. But it is standard hardware, and you should be able to find something that will work.

A standard carriage bolt works just fine. I used the nylon locknuts on them instead of the old castle nut and cotter key. Don't forget the springs and the rubber pad.

I might have a set; if I do, not sure what condition. I'll check tomorrow. They are just plain steel carriage bolts, check these:

I can appreciate as well as anyone wanting to do a restoration properly to the last detail. And I'm sure there's a pair of those bolts around that are plenty useable, since Ford made so many of them, if one is willing to wait and spend the money to find them. But something like this, a part that doesn't show, and where the only difference might be a slight size or shape of the bolt head, that can be "fixed" on $2 worth of replacement bolts with some creative work on a belt sander, in about 5 minutes.

BTW, the springs used are just a pair of valve springs.

I checked lmc's catalog as someone said they got their bolts there. I did not find them. So I am still looking for the carriage bolts. And as for whether or not I have a 5 star cab, I don't know how to tell the difference. It did not have an interior light, but it did have a fresh air vent on the right side of the truck that went through the fender. Any information on 5 star stuff would be great.

Thanks,
Scott
