I had some problem a while back with my truck smoking real bad, so I took it to the dealership and the mechanic there drove it around and then said that it was the CAI messing with the EGR and making it do crazy stuff. So he pulled over and unplugged it (with the truck still running), pulled off and stomped on the gas, and the truck didn't smoke anymore. But my questions is this; should the EGR be unplugged when the truck is running or when the truck is off and cold? I have normally heard that you should do it with the truck off, but didn't know then why he would have done it with the truck running. This mechanic really knows his stuff with the 6.0s, so that's why I was curious.
I would think unplugging with the truck running would leave the vale in the open position. I too have mostly read to unplug with the truck off. But have read one post for unplugging with truck running. I personally tried the egr. unplugged with the truck off and did not like the way the truck ran. I am now in the process of doing the egr. cooler delete. by plugging both sides of the exhaust flow on the the cooler. Should have it running tommorow. But back too your truck if it is working ok. I would be inclined to leave it. You could try plugging it in, powering it up and then unplugging in the off position, just to compare. You can always re set it back the way it is.
Maybe someone else will chime in here with more experince on this.

Thanks for the help man. We'll see what others have to say, or if they even do.
Unplug it with the truck off. You will not make as much boost. Power is down a little. But the intake will stay cleaner. The valve will not open with it unplugged. The plug is only used to open valve not to keep it closed. Boost will hold it closed. People believe boost will open it. Not true. It's a two way valve. Boost holds it shut. Look at how it's designed. I have a spare egrv plugged in and mounted next to the original.
