not a good day.

Im not having a very good day,it all started when i went to the store.I was going down the road at about 35mph and a small 4 ran right into the side of my truck,it didnt dent anything but it scrachted the s*** out of the side of the truck which has all new paint. So of coarse i lost my temper and started beating the s*** out of my truck, holding it wide open most of the time,it even hit the rev limiter a couple of times and.Now that ive calmed down i feel like crap for beatin on my truck and now im worried that i might have messed some thing up.I never really go past 2800 rpm because im always worried about messin the motor up because its a deisle.Should i worry about what ive done or is it some thing that these mortors are made for?let me no what u guy's think what do u put ur motors through?

What is a small 4???? If you are not having any symptoms/problems I wouldn't worry about it.

What's the rev limiter set to on the stocker? I've been up to 3350 on the dyno.

I doubt you did anything. Stock tuning makes it nearly impossible to do permanent damage.

Your truck is thanking you for finally letting it stretch it's legs.
My truck never runs better than after a long trip, pulling the trailer up and down mountain passes.

You should be good, the rev limiter did its job. Just think, you could of had a baseball bat in your hand at the time. Or a golf club.

Also i was under the hood with the motor running, after all this and if i lestend closly. There is a tinging noise coming from the driver side rear of the motor its a metal to metal sound.the only way i can best describe it is it sounds like some one taping on a piece of exhaust tubing very lightly.I hope its not something internal, also some times if i have the od off and im going down a hill fast enough to have the tc locked up and the injectors are quit i can hear some taping/knocking noise's coming from the motor is that normall?

You're hearing the "long lead" injector in the no. 8 hole. Mine drove me nutz, but now they all do that. LOL

I agree with the others, nothing to worry about by hitting the rev limiter. I suppose now is not a good time to tell you about the emission testing procedure. Not sure what it's like in your neck of the woods, but here in Arizona they make you floor it and hold the revs at the rev limiter for about 5 seconds. We have to do this about 6 times.

This used to freak me out and then I saw one of these 7.3 engines at a local machine shop. After looking at the rods and bearings and general strength of everything....I don't worry any more. I think the redline is in the low 3000s because the fuel will only burn so fast. To me, the parts looks like they can spin way faster than that before anything lets go.

Just my thoughts and observations.

Caleb, with all the small minor fixes you been thru and some aggrevation with these fixes, be glad that you own a 7.3 and how these motors take a lickin and keep on tickin. What I would do is compose yourself, do what you can to the damage and enjoy your truck and run it responseble and it will last you a long time.. and this was all said with a happy face
