Welcome to the Forum, Donald. There's a lot of really smart people who know practically everything there is to know about these trucks, so you've come to the right place for answers. The front ends are all the same for pickups and panels. Doors, too. Someone else will need to verify the vin as being from a '50. The numbers overlap from 49 and 50, so one really needs a program to keep track of the players. There's a lot of good places to get parts for our old trucks. Could you be a little more specific of your plans and needs? We could better direct you with that.

Welcome to the board, nice to see another panel owner joining.

Careful on the fenders. Most panels are ½ ton F-1 models, although I've been told there ones that are some that were F-2 and F-3, although I've never seen anything other than F-1s. F-1 have their own fenders, F-2 and up fenders have wider wheel openings. They will still bolt up to the F-1s, they just have the bigger openings.

The panel is the same as the pickups. There are a few differences, one being the running boards and board brackets. The panel uses the same running boards as the flatbed trucks which are a little longer than the pickups. Also, there are only two brackets on each side, the pickups have three.

There are some parts of the panels that are extremely hard to find. The hardest item is an original passenger seat. Many panels were delivery trucks and were ordered without a passenger seat because it got in the way and took up valuable space. Most times after the original owners were done with the panels the next owner, or the next, would take the seats out and replace them with modern bucket seat. The next hardest item to find is a good set of back doors. If you have one that can be repair you'll probably be stuck with them because to find a good replacement set is next to impossible.

Other than the above mentioned parts everything else is interchangeable with the conventional cab trucks, doors, hood, dashboards and grill, etc.

Good luck with your truck, feel free to ask questions and post some pictures, we like pictures.

Welcome Donald.

At the beginning of the 48 - 60 section of FTE is a post devoted to establishing VIN's for 49 - 50 trucks. It's a big thread with about 35 pages. You can poke your way through it and pick up some info, like the hand stamped letters / numbers on the firewall. And with that in hand on of the 2 knowledgable gents there can provide insight on our truck. Here's a link:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...n-cut-off.html

There are a lot of nice helpful folks here, let 'em know what parts you think you need and people will give you options and leads.

Hi Donald! Welcome to FTE!

This site is a fantastic resource for just about anything that may come up with your restoration! It's definately a learning process and collectively, the answers for just about anything you need to do is here because someone here has done it (and can help you do it better or avoid mistakes).

First off is Manuals. There's a few books you will really want to look into getting. Here is a link from a discussion we had about Technical Publications that are useful and where to get them:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-everyone.html

This second link is a list of parts houses that deal with our trucks and who sell parts. Here are the links to their sites or online catalogues:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-to-socal.html

According to the Salesmans Handbook, all Panels were F1s thru 1952.

I'm looking forward to seeing you on the site and seeing pictures of your truck and progress.

Good luck with your Panel!

Welcome to FTE, Donald. Glad to have you. As Bobj said, be careful of the fenders. While I was at the old ford shop yesterday, I looked a a couple of panels he had there and both had the larger, F-2, wheel openings on the front fenders. Both fenders look good on the panel, it just depends on what you like. Update your profile so that it shows your location. It helps when you are looking for parts. If you are anywhere near south central Texas, I know where you can get a lot of parts for your panel.

Welcome to the board!!

As you can already tell there are tons of knowledgeable folks here who are more than happy to share info with you.

If you don't have manuals handy or cannot find a set for a reasonable price do the next best thing, order every free catalog you can stumble across. Most of these catalogs have great parts break down pics and can be very useful.

Here's a big lis of links that I've found helpful over the years, alot of these links don't have anything to do with out old trucks but then again, alot of the parts on my old 49 don't have alot to do with these old trucks either....lol

Sounds painful , good to hear you're getting better.

Glass is pretty easy to get. I ended up buying my windshield a few years back from a place that does shower glass. I called around to the auto glass companies and none of them cut glass any more, they all only sold packaged glass. You still might be able to find an auto glass place near you but I couldn't find one in my area. You just have to make sure they use the correct glass. The side and back glass is different than the windshield. It's all safety glass but the windshield has to be a different highway grade.
