I guess after reading this info the moral of the story is if you do not tune you will be happier in the long run.
As with any modifications you have to do them in order to keep the dependabillity. It's like a 1000watt amp on 50watt speakers. You got to upgrade all associated weak points at the same time.
As of this week, I have just under 161,000 miles on my 2003 6.0L PSD and all is well.
I run a stock motor except for a coolant filter (a must have in my book) and a Racor by-pass oil filter that Racor had me test for them as long as I send them my Blackstone oil reports.
The only things I have had to do to my truck since new are:
1) ICP sensor @ 110,000 miles or so
2) HFCM/Fuel pump assembly @ 155,000 miles
3) Transmission TFT fluid sensor @ 158,000 miles
4) New front hubs/bearings @ 159,000 miles
5) Reflashes along the way as required
I use synthetic oil and only Motorcraft or Racor filters (oil and fuel). I change my oil every 5,000 miles and flush my coolant with distilled water every 50,000 miles. I do my transmission service every 30,000 miles as recommended as well. I also add and use Power service fuel additive (double dose rate) at every fill-up.
Great truck and it does what I bought it for (which was not to be a race car).
I figure I have a collector's items here... a well running 6.0L Excursion, both of which are no longer made... so that makes it a collector truck!!!
The Ex in my sig has oil and coolant filters, and a bd monitor. That is the way it will stay until something breaks but being untuned nothing should break. It has 130ish thousand miles, great vehicle. The f350...that is another story all together lol
Well................ I have some mods but not for power, just to improve reliability.
For Religious reasons I have.....
Removed the EGR valve (plug in the hole)and have a home made sneeky pipe. (I run sct with a near stock tune just to deal with the EGR.)
gutted the kitty.
They offended me, so I cast them out.
I also have the CVV to atmosphere, and just installed a Edge Insite.

What procedure are you using for transmission flush? I'm about to role 30,000.
What procedure are you using for transmission flush? I'm about to role 30,000.
I have the dealer do it.
30,000 miles = machine flush with new Mercon SP fluid only and change the external (toilet paper looking filter).
60,000 miles = Machine flush as done above, plus pay to have tranny pan dropped and internal filter changed out)... then refill tranny with more fluid to bring back up to full (this allows me to see the inside of the pan and to change the internal filter (along with external filter when doing the flush).
90,000 miles = Flush procedure again (with new external filter)
120,000 miles = repeat the 60,000 miles procedure.
If I remember correctly, a flush at my local dealer is either $119 or $129 for the complete service. Can't remember what the added cost of the "drop pan, change filtern add new fluid costs).
I have had zero problems with my tranny and I hope to keep it that way... and the Mercon SP fluid always looks bright and red in color. I even watch the tech do it to ensure that there is no mistake in which fluid is used - Mercon SP only!!!!!!
