yeah just checked mine and its all just plastic tabs connections that hold it down, imagine that plastic tabs that hold something on that truck together lol
The alternator sound is not the same as the hood flutter had the alternator noise fixed by changing it
Have some flutter noise but mostly on windy days at highway speeds. comes and goes will try the tube when its warmer out
But the 2 sounds are not even close.
Do a search in the 2004-2008 F150 section using the keywords "whistling noise" and you'll find lots of material. Based on what '2004 xlt 5.4' and others have posted, the culprit would seem to be the alternator (lots of claims that this was the fix).
I can't speak to my fix for the problem yet, as my '05 XLT 5.4 does the exact same thing in the winter. There is a sweet spot in the RPM and vacuum range where it gives me the high pitched whistle/squeal, which is right in line with the experiences of others. Mine sounds like it's coming from behind the HVAC controls in the dash, and my assumption up until now has been that it's been a leaking or otherwise faulty part of the HVAC system that's sensitive to engine vacuum during colder temps. After reading everyone else's experiences, my assumptions may be wrong and, for all I know, mine could be an alternator as well. Seems strange, but I can't prove otherwise yet.
At any rate, I'll probably be heading to the dealer with it within the next couple of weeks. I'll let you know if I learn anything further.
yeah i put a bug/rock deflector on my truck and it mess my hood up for the hieght so the adjusting the hood trick did work for me there is deffantly a difference, i think the problem is durring the winter the rubber seal kinda shrink so more air gets through the gap down by the hood and bottom of crowl so i adjusted the hood stops and could see a significant differance

yeah im glad to thought i would have to replace a alternator, right now i just need to tweek it a little bit
I have the flutter at hood left to stop
bought 58" piece of 3/16 fuel line like in the TBS you posted and ran it into the rubber opening on the back hood seal greatly improved tension on the paper when pulled out
will road test wed. on highway and post findings
Ran the highway today was very windy still some flutter at hood but 80% less noise than before maybe when rubber is warm in summer it will be all gone.
As I live in Canada, I have had this prob for a couple years now, seems only when below freezing temps and it doesnt go away when the engine warms. Have a 05 with a 5.4 with CAI and it seems to be from that as it didnt happen before I installed it. similar to other posts that it comes around 65 - 70 mph and goes away under and over that speed.
