trying to figure out if somethings wrong. i've been feeling a vibration in my 02 250 crew cab thats driving me crazy now im not sure if im just paranoid. i can feel it throughout the truck when motor is running worst at 750rpm. i can feel it the most if i put my hand on the driverside intercooler pipe, which seems to vibrate alot even at idle.the other places i feel it alot are the exhaust pipe next to the tranny, the front driveshaft, and transfercase housing.the engine itself doesnt seem to vibrate to much and it seems to be running smooth.this all started when i put a hypertech programmer in. it was making a moan or vibration right between 3 and 4 th gear but thats the only time, always worse with programmer in or towing a trailer. i took programmer out and it doesnt seem to do it unluse there is any kind of load on it like going up hill.but since then ive noticed thisconstant vibration which seems directly connected with a running engine. truck is all stock with 75000miles. also, before programmer my mileage was around 13.9, with programmer 16.9, now its 12.2 with no programmer .im starting to worry that im just paranoid but i know that moaning sound cant be good and the constant vibration seems loke it shoulnt be there.
This is one of those things that's hard to diagnose over the internet so I'll just throw out some observations and you can tell us what may or may not fit your situation.
If you've had the CPS recall done, the "new & improved" gray CPS has been known to cause a rougher idle in some trucks. Not terribly rough, just rougher than it used to be.
A programmer or chip changes several parameters so a change in engine sound or vibration can be completely normal.
The overhead display that tells MPG is less than accurate on most trucks, and when a chip or programmer is added, can easily become worthless. Rick was getting 99 MPG on his dually after his new tunes. MPG's should always be hand calculated.
I don't know anything about Hypertech, but I've read where some programs tweak the factory settings so that it's not truly factory even after the truck has been set back to "stock".
I have always thought this about my truck. Driver side seems to vibrate more than other side, and I hear a vibration through the firewall at some idle speeds. Almost like the power steering hoses are rattling on something or the booster, but I can't find anything. It's weird to say that the driver side vibrates more than the passenger side. Listening under the hood it's like a general noise that something is hitting something else slightly but nothing seems to be. Also when I first got my truck it had a gatorback belt that resonated/vibrated between the alt and p/s pump. Tried a new one same thing, put a ford belt on and it's ok, but it still shouldn't do it regardless. others have used gatorbacks with no issues.
I have between 2 and 3% rotational change on number 8 which is on that side so maybe this isn't just our imagination.
Chris, I am down to 26.9 mpg after I got live tuning. . These truck will be vibrating and making all type of noises as they get older. Some times it is the drive train, tires, mud somewhere. If it still runs good, I wouldn't worry about it to much.

I think you meant 16.9MPG and if so you're doing good, unless that is hwy, then you're not doing bad, but if you really are doing 26.9 then WOW you're doing awesome and I'd like to know how you achieved such a score.
I don't really, but I can be **** about things. It's something I noticed.
Then again, if it wasn't for **** observations we wouldn't have all the information/fixes about the bubbles in the fuel and such!
I was happy to get 15.9 on my trip to Michigan over the weekend. It's the only thing that disappoints me about this truck is it doesn't get better mpg.

I mean 26.9 on the lie-o-meter. lol. I get right at 15.7 hwy. On my way to DP TUNER I was getting 57.9 on the way there, got low 30's on the way back, according to the lie o meter. Tuning makes a big difference on the meter, makes it off by many MPG.
I noticed there was a mass fuel desired option on the latest AE update. I wonder if that is the calculation that gets messed up when it's tuned. Would be interesting to compare. FWIW, this gets messed up on any vehicle that is tuned it seems and has a trip computer.
Well, I would have liked to have one of those overhead displays but if the dumb meter isn't even close I guess the only thing I'd use it for is the thermostat. Maybe I'll get a digital gauge one of these days that shows the outside temp.
with another vehicle I had an engine that vibrated and shook so much it looked like it was gonna hop out of the car and run away at jackrabbit speed. I kept asking pros with long experience with the brand if the motor mounts might be bad and they would always say, nope, they all run like that that. Since I was doing all the top-end work myself making the fuel injection system, etc. just as happy as can be, that was frustrating. When I finally changed the motor mounts it sat there purring like a kitten. Anything with rubber/vinyl/plastic composites or whatever they make motor mounts out of ain't gonna last forever, but of course a 7.3L engine will, so....
