I have never change a wheel bearning in a superduty before.
I have a 99 f250 superduty 4x4 with a front left wheel bearning going bad.
can someone point me to detailed instruction.
looks like 2 bolt to take off the brake, 2 bolts to take off the brake braket, and the 4 bolts on the inside.
Is that it?
thanks again
Here is the ball joint replacement instructions from Racerguy in the tech folder... It has some detailed instructions on how to remove and replace the hub.
I see you have an '99 model,if it was built before 3-22-99 you will need to get the older style hub.One way to tell is to take a 10mm wrench and see if the edge of the hub is the same thickness. If its thicker [13mm] then you have the newer style. You can use the newer ones [13mm] on the older trucks but,you have to buy new rotors for the newer trucks. Its a lot easier and cheaper to get the newer style hubs.Installation is pretty much what you said.
Except you have to remove the snap ring and spacers from the axle before you pull the hub. Make sure you put them on in the same order they came off. Use a 3 jaw puller to get the hub off. Its much easier than trying to bash the hub off with a BFH.
Just follow racerguy's instructions and you will be fine.
thanks guys
will give it a try.
I did not see a abs wire. did the older trucks not have them? I think my was made before the above date, but will double check.
thanks again
Some trucks only have rear abs brakes.I forgot about removing the snap ring and spacers. It probably wouldn't hurt to replace the O-rings on the lockout hub if you have autohubs.
The only reason i mention it is because i forgot too.......
BTW, new snap ring and spacer kid is about $26 from ford.
I knew they were there, even bought a brandy new pair of snap ring pliars for the job... but it was raining and cold and i was in a hurry... ended up breaking the plastic hex-washer thingy, and bending the other washers and breaking the snap ring. DOH
