So I just bought a used 2006 F-250 King Ranch about a month ago, and since I've had it, the rear dome light (and map lights) have not worked. I finally got around to taking off the light enclosure today and discovered that the problem is that there are no wires connected to the light. I looked around inside the frame as much as I could, but couldn't even find the loose wires that have been disconnected.
Has anyone else come across this? I'm trying to figure out the best plan of attack here. Is there a wiring harness i can buy to plug-in, or is it something I'm going to have to have the dealership wire for me? Also, any ideas on cost?
The wiring has to be there--Every truck regardless if it's a base XL to a King Ranch had a dome light. It probably pulled forward above the headliner. I don't know if your headliner is similar to mine, but just remove the 2 coat hooks, and the dome lamp, and you should be able to pull the headliner down enough to see in there and look for the harness. Did you buy the truck from a Ford dealer ??? If so, tell them that you pulled the dome lamp to see why it doesn't work and you found that the harness is not there--That's their problem.
That was it! I took off the light and the two plastic anchors on either side and was able to pull the headliner down enough to see them pulled back only about 2 inches. The previous owner had spliced into the harness for some extra lights (and left the splices there), and when they took out the lights they just didn't bother to plug it back in. Thanks a lot Ron! That's been bugging me for about a month.
