Does anyone have any experience with AC Delco glow plugs. If they're not as good as the recommended MotorCraft I'll pass on them and mail order the MotorCraft. The others available locally are the much despised Autolite and the not recommended Bosch.
Thanks, Scott
MotorCraft is the way to go. I have herd some bad things about AC Delco, and have had a VERY bad experience with Autolite. Do the mail order. It is worth it.
Being this is my first diesel I don't really but that's what replaced the Autolites that were installed and swollen. There wasn't very much mention of them good or bad that I could find and being they were available and at a fair price that's what I got. I did notice that the ones listed for my 85 had bigger spades on the top and the model was 8G which I think is wrong. Had to re size the connectors a little bit for the wider fit.
Yea I think at this point I'll order the MotorCrafts and work on the harness once they arrive. Having to check all and replace a few plugs every fall has gotten old. Thankfully though I've not experienced the swelling problem mentioned. Thanks for the input. Scott
i dont use glow plugs any more cause all i do is burn the tips off mine, but im running more timing/fuel/rpm then international ever intended on happening, i have beenrunning the glow plug "delete" mod which is just cutting the tips off the glow plugs so its like having a plug inthere which takes up less spce, so that lowers the compression, only downside is you have to find a way to crank it, a little wiff of either does the trick, but i want something better, and as soon as i get my hands on a 1999-03 7.3 powerstroke intake heater, im going to rig it up on my idi
i have 1 auto lite stuck in the hole it screws to the last thread and wont pull out of
hole. it just wabbles. any ideas on getting it out
thanx

you got to be very careful trying to get it out, or it can break off on there and then you will need to pull the head and get it out of the pre cup, someone on oil burners posted a tool that was made to pull stuck glow plugs out of the hole without breaking the tips,
i had 2 break off on me and i didnt have the money to pull the heads and i had to have the truck so i just couldnt have it down, so i had to take the chance and see if the would pass without it killing my motor, so i prayed, then cranked it it made a knock for a second then went away so i got lucky, BUT I DONT RECOMENED ANYONE TRYING TO PASS A GLOWPLUG TIP THREW THE ENGINE IT CAN KILL THE ENGINE!!!

Reading the threads last night about gp's makes me wonder if you got one of those "swollen" ones. Thankfully I haven't experienced that but look back through the threads, (glow plugs, cold start, no start, modules, etc), I saw one where the fellow used a cordless driver and it wore down the swollen tip backing it out without breaking it.
dyoung14,
Ouch! Makes me think of passing a golf ball size kidney stone. No gp's?...I've been thinking the last several years now that there must be a way to preheat the fuel somewhere before injection, thought about something as simple as wrapping the intake line with heat tape, like what's used on plumbing pipe to prevent freezing, it might heat enough fuel for a quick start. Anyway haven't gotten around to trying it. That's where that hard banging Cummins has an advantage. I always hoped Ford would go to the Cummins but they were making too much selling them to Dodge and GM. Oh well, in a perfect world.
