my wife's taurus is having heater issues, ive tried flushing it out but still am not getting much heat out of it. worked fine last winter. the hoses on the heater core are both hot with the outlet hose not quite as hot. poured some liquid plumber into the core and let it set for 15 min then flused out both ways with a hose into a 5 gallon bucket, filling the bucket both times. saw no deris and it seemed to flow freely. was wondering if anyone with a taurus has had a similar issue. ive looked under the dash and the only door i see is the vaccum controlled blend door that moves when the floor-mix-defrost **** is turned. is there another door somewhere the may not be opening? fan operates in every position. i am thinking about putting a valve on the bypass line and shutting off the bypass either half or all the way. then all the coolant will go through the core vs some going through the bypass. im sure its unrelated, but the a/c quit working last summer. its a major surgry to change out the heater core, and it flows freely and doesnt leak so im thinking it should work as is, but im puzzeled as to why im not getting much heat out it. car has around 125K miles on it, water pump was changed around 3 years ago and i just put a new thermostat in, enegine seems to be at normal operating temperature.

is there another door somewhere that may not be opening? This is very possible, considering...
All the vacuum lines connect to this valve which bolts to the backside of the A/C Heater Control Panel.
This valve controls the blend door motors that operate the damper doors, and...has the "kicker switch" on it that turns on the A/C.
My '99 has lots of heat but no a/c, (compressor cold) and I'm assuming that some vacuum related scenario is taking place as well. Are the post '97's similar?

1996 and later blend door motors and the A/C selector valve are different part numbers because the entire car (Taurus/Sable) changed in 1996.
1996 and later: There may be more...or less of the blend door motors, the location may have changed, I'd have to look in the 1996/2002 Car Parts Catalog and verify.
If you want the part numbers...I'll post them. Does your car have A.T.C. (Automatic Temperature Control) or not?

Yes sir it does but you don't need to post he numbers. I'm going to have it fixed by my mechanic, just wanted to be educated.
mine doesnt have the auto temp control, just has 3 *****, left side **** is the fan, middle **** is the hot/cold and the far right **** has the selections for a/c, defrost, floor, mix. i saw a picture elesewhere that showed a vac motor on the left side of the core box up against the firewall, cant see or feel anything from underneath. the one i can see seems to work normally and is the one that is controlled by the a/c-defrost-mix-floor ****. i'll find some way to rig it.
