I have my 2001 motor in my early 99 truck. I swaped out the PCM. I am getting two codes. P0720 and P1316. I know the P1316 is from the IDM so i checked and the guy said i can have the IDM on the 01 truck. Can any one give me a reference to pull the IDM, pics? Also what would cause the P0720 tranny code?
Thanks for the help in advance.
The IDM is up inside the drivers front wheel well above the liner, tucked back behind the F350 badge. Scott has done a write up with pics on how to mod the IDM, but it includes removal which should work for you. 2001 Ford F250 4x4 - IDM mod pictorial

The 1316 just means there are codes stored in the idm and you have to do a buzz test to retrieve them. Often times this is caused from one of the 9 pin plugs under the valve covers that tends to come loose. What is the truck doing? Not sure about the 720 code.
Edit: If swapping the motor is a recent thing maybe it is a wiring issue?
Thanks fo the info guys. I will get the IDM Monday and swap them.
I just got the engine put in. Starts and Runs great. I get a SCS light as soon as i get on the pedal very hard. These are the codes it gives. Also my tranny isnt shifting properly. It is like it delays the shoft or doesnt want to shiftg at all. I tried my 99 pcm and my 01 pcm. Not any different with the shifting.
PS: I did put the quarters under the VC on the plugs. I will double check the outside plugs though. I cannot buzz test them but if swapping the IDM doesnt fix it i will see about getting them buzzed at a local shop.
What are you using to do the buzz test? With the AE, you will need to set it for the '01 year model. Early '99 PCMs weren't capable of doing the buzz test, but it should be able to with the '01 installed. Also, the E'99 has a 110v IDM and the '01 is 120v, giving it a slight upgrade, too.
Pull the Output Shaft Speed Sensor and check for any metal sticking (not necessarily a good sign) to its magnet. This may be causing some sensor signal issues. The PCM compares the input and output signals to determine gear ratios/shifts of the trans.
Yes. When accessing the drop down menu for the live data meters, you can select the rotational velocity % reading for each cylinder. I tried to do this on an early '99 and couldn't get the data. I found out later this was due to the differences in the PCMs. If you have a later model PCM installed and set the AE for that year, it should bring up this data.
So interestingly enough the plug on the tail housing of the tranny wasnt plugged in good. That cleared up my tranny code. IDM will be installed Monday evening.
Thanks for the info guys. Very informative as always.
Huh? I'll have to toy around with that but in doing so what is this information going to tell me?
At idle a perfect balance of all the cylinders will show 0% on all eight (not common). Percentage #s above 3% show a cylinder(s) that is(are) not firing as well as the others. This is similar to the Cylinder Contribution Test that cancels cylinders, one by one, electronicly and then give a code for the weak cylinder(s), if found.
I have replaced the IDM. I tried clearing the codes with an AutoTap. It showed clear until i drive it a little hard and let off the pedal. they come back. I will try to get it on a better computer in the next day or so. I will let you guys know what i find.
