Wiring harness?
Wiring harness?
Anybody know of where I could possibly find an engine wiring harness?
It fits an '85 F250/350 w/460, electric fuel pumps. Ford # E3TZ14289-M
(May have been superceeded)
Mine has no insulation left on any wires, and since a two-legged rat (PO) had
been after the truck to "fix" it, I'm not sure if the wires even go where they were intended.
Thanks

The only place I know would be a junkyard. Go to Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and plug in your truck and where you live, and see if anything comes up.

E3TZ14289M .. Dash Panel to Engine Gauge Feed Wiring Harness / Use with 460 w/Electric Fuel Pump / Not Superceded = Obsolete
No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
Fits: 1983/85 F250/350 460 w/Electric Fuel Pump before production date 11/84.
Fits: 1985/89 F250/350 w/Electric Fuel Pump from 11/84 .. CA & Canada ONLY.
If your 1983/85 truck was assembled before 11/84...this is the correct part number.
If it was asembled from 11/84 and was sold new in CA or Canada, it's the correct part number.
BUT...if it was assembled from 11/84 and was not sold new in CA or Canada, it's the wrong part number!
To NumberDummy,
The date on the door post sticker says 3/85.
Place of original sale- unknown
Part # was gotten from "official" 1985 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog,
dated December, 1984.
If there is a newer "version" of the parts catalog, where would i find it?
Thanks
P.S. How do I find out where the original sale was at?

The DSO code is on the bottom line..usually at the far right.
I'm using the last edition (1994) of the 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog on microfiche. This info came from TEXT, Section 140, page 16.
This parts catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com.
I contacted hipo awhile ago, and asked what edition of this parts catalog was scanned from. I was told...the last edition of 1994.
There are two problems associated with this...and every other Ford parts catalog:
(1) There were 4 parts catalog changes every year.
(2) Ford is in-famous for updating 10's of 1000's of part numbers every
year!So...even if you have the last version of the catalog, there will be some numbers that were updated after the fact.
What one really needs besides the correct parts catalog is the O-S-I (Obsolete-Supercede-Interchange) catalogs, and access to Ford's computer system.
Otherwise...there is no guarantee the part number you just looked up is correct...or not.
I have all of this jazz...including access to the in-house Ford Dealer Parts Locator System that lists every dealers parts inventory, the MSRP and Dealer Net (cost)...and also updates part numbers.
I also have access to the obsolete parts vendors site (PartsVoice.com), also used by some Ford Dealers. So when I say "no one has anything," I'm not just a whistlin' Dixie.
btw: Anyone can access PartsVoice. Registration is free, searching is free. BUT ... remove any spaces or hyphens from the part number, type 'em like this: E3TZ14289M
If you type numbers with spaces or hyphens (like: E3TZ-14289-M or E3TZ 14289 M), no parts will be found.
Ok, there are three #'s above the designation "DSO" on the sticker.
From top to bottom they are: F0446, T0393, and 56.
I'm thinking the "56" is the # you are asking about.
Just in case it is of any value in this, the vin is
1FTHF26L7FPA81948
I hope this is right. I'm a converted D**** person, so I'm not that familiar with things in this world

It could be 58 = Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul MN) Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
The 11th digit of the VIN is the assembly plant code: P = Twin Cites Assembly Plant.
E5TZ14289B .. Dash Panel to Engine Gauge Feed Wiring Harness / Obsolete
Fits: 1985/89 F250/350 460 w/Electric Fuel Pump from 11/84 except CA & Canada.
CACA! No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
All the info above will be handy, even when looking in the junkyard for a used truck to pull it from. But you might not have many choices, and if it has the correct configuration with the correct engine, you might have to get it anyway. I suspect any changes will be small, and the harness you get will probably be 90% correct, with a minor difference that could possibly be corrected by using a piece or two from your old harness.
