Nightmare!

I'm having a lot of problems with this truck, and I'm sure most of it has to do with "butchered" wiring. Could anybody tell me where the ammeter shunt is supposed to be? Is it in the alternator to regulator harness, or is it in the main cab harness, and approximate location (under hood near firewall, under dash near ......)?
Thanks in advance for any help I could get on this.

It is in the alternator to battery harness. Follow the large output wire from the alternator and it should go to a splice in the harness. Then there is a wire from there that goes to the starter solenoid bat + post. It should be in this wire.

I would not waste a lot of time trying to get this to work. I have never seen a factory ammeter gauge actually work and give any useful info.

Thanks. Anything is better than nothing. The way this thing is "butchered", I'll probably wind up rewiring it from bumper to bumper. just a lot easier if I can find OEM harnesses, so I can stop when it works again.
