Particularly since you haven't purchased one yet, just get what you want and be done with it. You'll have more $$$/time/effort in the swap than you'll save in cost up front of a gasser vs diesel.
oooh... careful there, I know I said "gasser vs diesel" but I didn't intend to start that up again

On that note, I would advise buying a blown up 6.0 or 7.3 truck and then drop it in, that is a conversion I've always wanted to do. If I could get my hands on a diesel SD with a bad motor, and drop a 24V cummins 5.9 it truly would be the best of both worlds
