im looking at cleaning up my engine and i was wondering the best way to get all the grease off everything, and make it not look dusty or oily and just make it look a lot cleaner, what do you guys recommend? thanks
I use Simple Green...spray it all over and let it sit for a few mins, hit the tough spots with a brush (toothbrush size) or rag...hose it off.
You can protect electricals with baggies or aluminum foil or a dry towel but I've never bothered and it starts right up for self-dry.
Various stuff works to dress up the hoses and parts... I generally hold a can of WD 40 about 3' back and spray then wipe. Foaming tire cleaner works good on hoses....
There's a website call Autopia.com I think it is that goes on for days on how to clean all things automotive.
nothin works beller than a machine shops acid tank and sand blasting but thats unrealistic unless you pull your engine for some reason i also like that GUNK stuff cheap and very effective
For the really baked-on black stuff on my intake manifold, I used carb cleaner sprayed thru the little red tube. Scrub with a toothbrush, soak up immediately with paper towels. Keep this stuff confined to very small areas, and away from rubber and any paint you want to save.
Haha Little Bro...you speak of this stuff as if its corrosive acid. I actually have used sulfuric acid to clean my exaust manifolds. It works very nicely...look brand new. However, be sure to neutralize it after cleaning it with baking soda mixed with water. If not it will keep corroding and look like crap... I dont recommend anyone try this for I don't want to ruffel any feathers of people that have burned themselves with the acid or messed something up on their truck...
