I trade F150's every two years and always buy one Leer cap in black and transfer it from truck to truck. Going from a 2008 to a 2010 tomorrow and now my Leer dealers says the cap won't fit due to a tail gate change. This change will make the cap 1.5" short. When I went to the Leer site and ran the cap picker I get the same cap for all models since I bought mine originally for my 2006, a 100R. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o></o> Has anyone else experienced this? Is my cap dealer selling me a new cap for nothing?<o></o> <o></o> Sorry to be asking a question with my first post but I trade my 2008 in for my 2010 tomorrow and need an opinion. I do promise the forum to be a fair resource for the 6R transmission since I manufacture them.<o></o> <o></o> Thanks<o></o>

I believe this is what your dealer is talking about. There is a difference in the 2009-2010 tailgate:
The 2009-2010 has the "lip" or spoiler extension on the top where the 2004-2008 did not. Not sure on the fitment issue. I would call Leer directly and ask them if you can get anyone since it's Thanksgiving. My guess would be that he is right and it will be a little short.
yeah, it won't fit. any cap, shell or fiberglass tonneau cover from 04-08 that wraps over the tailgate lip won't fit the new 09/10's because of the new wider tailgate lip.
Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I'll have to shell out the dough for a new cap. I wonder if the tailgate design engineer knew what he was doing to people buy adding that cute little lip...should have left it alone from my perspective.

Thanks Murph1 but too late as I picked up my new truck and cap yesterday! I do think I got a good deal myself though. I even got $325 for my old (6yr) cap.
