Everybody says they can hear the injectors change sound. Nobody has yet told me how they distinguish between the injectors that are under the VC and inside the engine compartment with sound muffling material around it. So how does anyone distinguish it by ear? How do you separate the buzzing of the injectors from the explosions going on in the engine?
IOW, how do you separate the injector buzzing from the combustion noise of the engine with just the ear when they are occurring simultaneously (for all practical purposes)?
Your correct, the noise is an ignition noise from the engine and not from the injector itself
I think what Mike meant is that going from stock to a tune with a DP chip, you can hear a change in the amount or type of noise coming from that big hunk of iron under the hood.
I agree with that. Reason I ask is because people have been saying that with this fuel or the CCX you can hear the injectors being more quiet. I would honestly like to know how they can tell the injector sound difference after it has been muffled by the valve cover, sound deadening material and hood, not to say the dash when they are driving.
Did Ford start using the AE LL injector in #8 to make the injector quieter or to make the combustion event quieter?
I think it changed the combustion noise and thus it became quieter. After all, when I did the regulated return, it changed the sound but I could not hear the difference in the buzzing noise from injectors.

Yep, thats what I mean't, is it injectors, I would assume so but I can tell a difference in sound.

If you can hear the change in buzzing over the engine noise after it has been muffled by the VC, sound deadening material and hood and dash, you could be right.

I think most relate the noise to the squirters because that's the thing doing all the work. I know with my truck if I switch from stock to my 80e tune, it gets quite a bit louder. I would assume it's injector noise but have no real way of knowing.

I agree that the better fueling to the #8 gives it the same combustion characteristics as the other cylinders and makes it quieter. That is why I suggested that the noisier engine symptoms, even in stock as the OP stated, could be caused by poor fuel delivery.

Me neither but seeing as how I know injectors make a buzzing sound and it seems to be more quiet than the explosions going on in the cylinders, I would assume that it is harder to hear them over the cylinder noise, valves clacking, etc, etc.

What about the Hutch mod? Could that help? Maybe it is because he is sucking air thru the quick connects that are now leaking? IIRC, the quick connects are said to NOT be good for vacuum which is what the fuel line from the tank to the pump is under. So, he will not get a puddle of fuel but instead suck air into the lines. Supposedly the aeration could cause the combustion noise to sound different and thus make the OP think there is something wrong with the injectors.

Good point. Air will cuase noise as well. Actually the quick connect on the return line is not a problem since it is under pressure and not suction. But most just get rid of them both while doing the hutch mod.
One thing that I think is highly overlooked is the fuel itself. It happened to us just in October when we went to PA. Here is GA we always fill up at Racetrack where you can get B5. In PA we couldn't find a pump with B anything. Only winter blend. One thing that was considerably different was the sound of my truck. It was louder and yes I did here the injectors more. Jody made several comments about it all weekend.
I try to run at least a fuel additive at every fill up and now I run on B5 every chance I get. I do see a significant difference in engine sound in the winter time.
Hope this helps also.

I too notice its alot quieter with the B5 I run versus the 100% petro diesel. I don't put anything else in unless i'm traveling, then I get whatever is avail. Wished I knew you guys were up this way, would have stopped by to say hello..

WVO is definitely quieter in my truck than diesel, but that could be because my grease system is pretty tight (not leaking air anywhere.)
