steering wheel removal
I have a 1940 one ton truck, got the first nut off the steering wheel, now I see what looks like a three sided nut, maybe press fit?
how do I remove the steering wheel? trying to take the cab completely off for a full restore.
thanks,

I presume you have all the horn mechanism off after removing the horn button, if so proceed.
Now take a 2 X 4 and with that nut back on 4-5 threads, put the 2 X 4 under the steering wheel, and procced to give it a whack, and then on the other side do the same working all around the wheel. The nut is on there so your wheel doesen't go flying off and break you or some glass.
Thats the way I took mine off then there comes the steering column. Undo the 2 bolts up under the dash "Tight Fit" they are either 3/8 or 7/16 head.
Then undo the 3 bolts at the steering box, make sure your front wheel drivers side is off and pull the column out through the bottom.
The column drop has a break off head on the bolt that clamps around the steering column, you will have to dril that one out put some penetrating oil in there to and with any luck an easy out will remove it with a little heat.
The ignition switch cylinder is easy to remove. There is a small hole at the underside of the key cylinder, about 1/4 inch maybe a little less. Drill up into it with a 1/8th drill bit just until you feel it going into another object, which will be the cylinder.
Once you have that done, take a sheet metal screw and insert it into the hole and tighten it snug, a trimm screw will do. Now clamp a pair of vise grips around it up against the head then hit the grips with a hammer, a small plug will come out and then remove the lock cylinder.
There will be a number on the cylinder and thats the key code, take it to a good lock smith and he should be able to make a key for you.
Hope this helps, don't know if you needed all this info, but just in case now you have it.
