i really think it would be neat if i could drop a diesel engine in my b2 but i am not sure if it's possible and if so any ideas on engines? i was thinkin about somethin like an isuzu diesel engine had a chevy luv that had one in it a long time ago but sold it ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated thx
Why not put a diesel in it, they put 'em in the Rangers in the 80's. The Early Ford Ranger Diesel Engines
At the present time, a search of RBV sites will net you a number of threads about diesels.
The Mitsubishi 4D55 was one of the engine in the Rangers and so I am seeing in other posts, is still available. The 4D55 was the 4 cylinder diesel was available in the small trucks other than the Fords.
The reason for not using the Cummins, is the weight, same with Mercedes and others. They are all great engines, just weigh 2 or 3 times what a stock V6 weighs.
i hadn't reall considered a VW diesel but that would probably work out pretty well i was thinkin of somethin like a 4bt cummins or a mitsubishi diesel but i was definately lookin forward to more power and better fuel ecnomy i will definately look into it
my buddy has a cummins 12v in his ranger if you like I could put you in touch with him he is always willing to discuss a swap like this
that would be greatly appreciate i would really love to drop a cummins in it i have talked to a couple of the diesel mechanics and the instructor at the vocational school i go to and they have all suggested cummins cause they are really easy to work on so i think i will go that route but the vw diesel idea is rather intriuging i have to admit
The cummins BT4 I dont know how you would even fit a BT 6 Cummins into a ranger, It would have to have a huge doghouse coming inside the cab
yeah i got to thinkin bout that one after i did a little lookin into it haha don't think it would that great of a fit but it would be pretty sweet haha
i got to lookin into the 4bt cummins and all of the engines that i can find are for industrial use. probably a really dumb question but will it work? and if so how do i go about fittin a tranny to it
The 4BT Cummins was put in old bread trucks at one time, I believe they were also used on forklifts and other industrial uses. I'm not sure if the bolt pattern is the same for the automotive 6BT in the trucks, but that is more than likely what transmission you'd end up using, probably out of a Dodge, etc.
