Towing with a towbar

I have a 97 F-250 PSD, I need to tow a Geo Tracker about 300 miles, it is usually towed behind a large MH, but I dont want to drive a MH to drop it off. Will my F-250 tow it safely including stopping power?

do you guys leave the vehicles running when there getting towed on a tow bar? and in neutral?? i always see rvs towing somehting thats 4wd such as a jeep and wonder if there smart enought to disconnect the drive shafts. the horror stories i hear from when we tow and what not(i tow for AAA), new drivers just popping non running cars in neutral and 20 minutes later the tires lock up, good by tranny! unless its a manual then forget i asked! lol

We had a Suzuki Grand Vitara that we Dinggy towed behind our motorhome. YOu had to put the transfer case in Neutral, the transmission in park (or drive, cant remember) and you had to leave the keys in it so that the steering wheel did not lock. But you did not have to leave it running. Although every 250 miles it is recommended that you drive it around a little bit and get the fluid in the transmission going.

I really dont remember the process other than that we used to do it... my dad would know the details as I was too young to remember any of it.

I use to tow a car on a dolly a long ways. I would do all the above and disconnect the battery. And like 95 dually said. You wont even know its back there!

I pulled a '51 2ton 50 miles with a tow bar. Other than pushing sideways a bit on corners on gravel, it was no problem at all. You won't feel that thing back there at all!

In the RV magazine 'escapees' there is a list of vehicles and how you can tow them. Some auto do fine, some you better hook up a trans pump.

Despite the nasty weather it towed fine. Thanks to all who commented and happy Thanksgiving! Would have been cooler had it fit in the bed!
