these old fords will cool off rolling down a hill. my truck typically doesnt warm up to full operating temp in the mornings but does fine in the afternoon. even on a hot day i can watch my temp gauge drop coasting down a hill
Ok, this is odd--- if i start my truck, let it idle the whole way up to operating temp it'll be just fine- it won't cool down. It stay's warm and my heat is nice and hot.
But, if I start the truck, let it idle for a minute or two, and then start to drive, it stays cool never warming up to operating temp. My heat will blow half cold, so I know the gauge isn't screwy.
WTF?
btw- I drive 25 miles to work, so it should have PLENTY of time so heat up.
Are you using a fixed fan or a clutch fan? I'm thinking the combination of fan and the in-rush of cold air while moving is cooling the water too much. You may have to put some cardboard to block off a portion of the radiator.
You'll see over-the-road trucks with blocked off radiators since with that big wall of a grille it cools the engine too much. My dad always has to do this with his Jeep CJ7s as well.
