ive got a 2005 f350 6.0L that sometimes very rarely smokes white when i first crank it for the day or if i go to the first red light of the day it will smoke when idleing, then will be fine. is this normal? im new when it comes to diesel engines. someone told me it may be the engine coolant. this may be it because my antifreeze coolant resivoire does leak, i think it has a crack. or is the smoke just moisture in the exhaust?
Mine smoked pretty bad especially at WOT like I would blind the car behind me with smoke. I replaced my EGR and has my 6.0 flashed with the latest and greatest and it runs perfect.
some white smoke at start up is normal. It may last up to a minute or so. If it goes on longer you may have other issues.
have you changed the oil latly?
it only lasts a minute. i changed the oil a week ago. i think im just paranoid, and started noticing the exhaust when the cold weather finally came into Alabama. like i said its rare when it does smoke, and it doesnt last long when it does blow.
The main concern needs to be around losing coolant. If you are losing coolant because the reservoir is cracked - that is one thing .... BUT if your reservoir is NOT cracked, then you are VERY likely to have an EGR cooler leak. Operating your truck w/ an EGR cooler leak can jeopardize your head gaskets AND it can possibly hydrolock your engine (expensive). It is not something you want to live with until something big happens!
have a 2005 f350 6.0 power stroke in it and strarted to smoke white. when it did this also there is lots of oil on the turbo and in the muffler.I am new with diesel's what could this be?
