I have a slight leak in my radiatior and I'm planning to swap it out next week. Before I dive in, I thought I'd ask if I can expect any surprises i.e. special tools, hidden fasteners, etc...
It looks straight forward, but I've been caught off guard before.
No, it is extremely easy the radiator just sets in place with the two top supports holding it in. Messing with the fan shroud, hoses and steel lines will be most of the hassle. I've mentioned it before and others think it is the end of the world but I pull the clutch fan off, gives you a lot more room and no chance of hitting it with the new radiator when you put it in.
I've done it TWICE due to a messed up one from advance auto. I did it without removing the fan and it took me about 2 hours by myself (i'm not a true grease monkey, just a DIY w/LOTS of tools The only thing that caught me off guard was the tranny cooler line going into the rad itself. The rad from Advance wasn't quite the same threading/hole as Factory so i have a very small leak in the tranny cooler line. I lose maybe 1/4 quart every 50k miles. But that is about the only thing I encountered after doing it twice. But it is pretty straightforward.
If that doesn't work, create a login and go to repair. Choose your vehicle and it's listed for you.
It's easy, but don't expect to be done within the hour unless you've done it a handfull of times. I've never taken off the fan, just moved the shroud back.
