On the weekend I installed a set of gauge overlays on my truck. When I was done I noticed that the oil pressure gauge did not work at all... I checked everything and could not find out why. So I decided to use the self check on the odometer (hold reset till it gives you options) and when I get to the one that says Oil - it says all 0's when the truck is running.
Now, obviously I have oil pressure as I drove it all weekend and it has no odd sounds (like metal on metal). Is this just the oil pressure sending unit giving my grief? or is it the gauge itself - maybe it got bumped or something and is dead now.
I tried to use my Diablosport tuner to see the pressure but I could not find it in the live information. Is there something else that I can do besides getting a real oil pressure gauge? (which I may end up doing eventually).
the original sender on the truck is an on-off switch. It turns "on" when the pressure gets to 8 psi and the gauge goes to mid range. A rear gauge like you bought is looking for a variable input signal - voltage. You need a specific sending unit, not the FORD unit.
I actually do not have an aftermarket gauge for oil pressure. Just the stock one. It just has a new face on it, same original gauge. It just does not move anymore and using the test feature of the odometer it says 0 when I get to the oil portion.
Just not sure if it is the factory instrument cluster that is the issue (since I had it apart and this happened right after putting the new face on) or if the sender decided to fail at that same time.
I'll get a new sending unit next time I am at the dealer.
well if you took the good gauge apart, and put it back together and 5 minutes later the gauge dont work..... i might not change the sender first, but could be.
