I think my torque converter went on me today but would like some confirmation from someone that knows (hence my title). The truck will shift fine from 1st to 2nd but thats it...after that it just revs higher.
When it happened to me, it would shift into first and second, but you would have to rev it real high and let off the gas for it to shift to third and overdrive.
It sure isn't the torque converter. The converter is not involved with shifting.
It could be a solenoid, a shift valve, or a clutch. Does reverse work?
I got the truck up on a hoist today and was checking the connector to the shift linkage as I read that if it was disconnected or loose, it would cause the problems I was having. Everything seemed tight but I had gently wiggled the wires going into the connector to see if any were broken loose. Put the scanner on the truck to see what codes came up and got a 07XX (can't quite recall the last two digits) but it was a 2nd-3rd shift error. Booked to bring the truck back later in the week and when I left, the truck was shifting fine. I suspect the wires are partially broken at the connector so will get that fixed up as soon as possible.
