Talking 6.7 Powerstroke....two different versions to be produced.

Good article on the new 6.7 on pickuptrucks.com saying that there will be two versions of the new Powerstroke used. The higher rated engine will be used in the F-250, F-350, and F-450 pickups while a derated version with a different turbo will be used in the F-450 and F-550 Chassis-cabs. The article still doesn't give any specific numbers yet though.

I wish they'd just concentrate on a single engine that will work reliably.

Yeah they do that in the Dodge 3500-5500 Cab and Chassi too. I guess its for reliability since most of the CC trucks are fleet trucks. As an owner of a fleet you don't want your employees destroying your truck, so they de-tune them. On the Dodge it is only 40 lbs of tq.

I just bought a 5500

I see former Ford fleets going to the 5500 around here. How do you like the truck so far?

Not sure, we bought it about 3 weeks ago, and it has been sitting in one spot ever since. We are trying to find a utility box we like. We don't drive it because it doesn't have any wheel wells over the back tires. We don't want to break the rear window with a rock.

I don't require any more power than the 6.4 provides to haul my fiver so if I could order the 450 pickup 6.7 with that output and increased mileage I would be happy.

So how does everyone feel about the NEW 6.7L being built in Mexico. The 7.3 so far has been the best Ford has made. Then an American built Navistar motor now a Mexican motor with very little testing???? I won't risk my 50 grand plus till they prove it out.

Ford didn't build the 7.3. Just used it. Lots of stuff on the trucks already made in Mexico

Yup. 6.9, 7.3, 6.0, and 6.4 were all Navistar engines. Ford can't afford to take any chances with this one. I think they'll get it right. What's wrong with it being assembled in Mexico?

Thats what I was thinking, parts are made all over the place. Heck I put a ford 5.0 HO in my 84 cj7 and all the wiring said mexico all over the 5.0 stuff. My 01 Sterling has Made in Mexico over several things too.

Exactly! And keep the majority of that engine in production for more than a matter of months.

So if some of the parts are made in Mexico it's not a problem for more of them being made there? Speaking metaphorically, if you are getting beat up at school three times per week and that increases to five times per week it's okay because you are getting beat up anyway?

I think the people losing their jobs at Navistar will not think building the engine in Mexico is a good idea. For your Mexico buying pleasure the transfer case will built there too. I know a lot people at New Process Gear who are quite pleased about that too.

Back on topic...

As for the dual ratings, it's most likely to make the transmission live at the higher gvw. Engine life and cooling is another concern as they probably can't keep the engine cool at the higher duty cycles encountered in a commercial truck.
