Hey guys! I love these forums! Most of my question gets answered by searching the forums but now i got this issue.
I have a late 99 psd f250 auto trans with 170k. Original transmission still good till now. I bought this truck 6 months ago never had i leak till a month ago. It started leaking from the front seal that the tq converter goes into.... so i thought....so i replaced that front seal and the dang thing still leaks. I know for a fact that we put that seal in right, so what else could cause that fluid to come out that front seal??? is it the pump and seals or something else??? I cant see it being that front seal again cause i know we did that right.
Once we got the trans out and tq there was no fluid round the pump just in the middle bottom of that seal fluid was coming out.
Please help fellow psd owners!!!
ps forgot to add that this was a work truck for a steel company and it has a 5th wheel hitch and i know they towed the crap out of it.
How was the bushing that the torque converter rides on? Often when the seal leaks it's because the bushing is worn out. It could also be a rough surface on the torque converter hub.
I had one at work about a month ago, it was a gasser van, that i thought the the pump seal was leaking. It turned out to be the o-ring around the pump. There is also a paper gasket that you would need to replace as well if you pull the pump.
So i decided that im going to pull the transmission and replace the pump seals and bushing. Just want to know exactly what seals i would need and possibly other stuff i should replace while its out.
Bob, I had 101k when my torque converter seal had to be replaced because it was leaking. The shop I used had to replace the bushing, the old bushing was worn out. Mark is right on with his advice!!
