has any one done or heard of some one putting a 7.3 non intercooled power stroke in a late 70s F150? NOT A F250,I have found all sorts of diesel swap tech on those but not any on a f150. The wiring and plumbing are not an issue as I would use a complete doner truck/van.Im wondering about the actual fit of it in the engine bay and frame. I know it weighs alot more than a gas job but that is not a major factor in this idea.
If you looking at the Ford non turbo diesel that is an idi not a powerstroke. The idi is a mechanically injected engine, where the powerstroke is an electronically controlled engine.
If you are going through the trouble I'd go with a cummins, it takes the same amount of work to swap. But is a more capable engine. I had the exact same thought of doing an idi swap but went with the cummins instead, I even had bought a Ford donor.
How much more does a 7.3 weigh compared to a 460 or an FE?

I dont have exact weights but my guess would be probably around 300-400 lbs more. Not really alot now that I look at it, but the cummins would have ALOT less wiring.
dave that was my thought. The weight issue is no more a problem than say a winch and bumper or a 7 1/2 foot snow plow (which this truck used to have) It is the physicle size and fit that im courious about.
P.S sorry for the spelling my spell check is not working..
Bummer, have to register to see the pics on that website

O. It is pretty sweet! reg cab long bed red and white sitting on an 04 F350 chassis w a 6.0 and a torque shift trans w a chip and exhaust. I am not a fan of a 6.0 but he did head studs and EGR cooler delete while he did the conversion
