Got a letter form Ford listing my Excursion and 96 F-250 concerning the speed control deactivation switch leaking and causing fire. This is for trucks with or with out cruise. I'm guessing only for diesels. Has anyone had this fixed yet ? How long did it take ?
My friend had his *fixed* last week. It was on his 97 PSD w/ CC. They also dicovered that he need new injectors, gp, and some wiring work. They got all that right, but when he got the truck back the CC didn't work. Now he has to take it in again next week.
I had it done on a 1998 Ranger (Gasser) last week. The fix is a "Fuse Link" installed in the circuit of the wire to the brake light switch. This fix shouldn't have any effect on anything else.
funny story i asked if there was a recall on that part 6 months ago because the wifes just went in for that on a 99 explorer, and they said no on the 97's were good lol.Now they say no there bad. lol
If it is the recall I am thinking of it is for 4.5 million vehicles, not just trucks. Had it done because I moved across a border and have to have all recalls cleared to register the truck.

Was his truck running poorly. That would suck if you think your truck is great, and then to only have somebody tell ya you need all that.
I just received the recall letter on my 97' about a week ago. I have a 94' also and I received the letter over a year ago, but haven't taken it in for the recall. The 94' had a wire to the switch that was hot all the time, I removed the wire and wired it away from the master cyl. On the 97' I checked the wires and they where not hot unless the key is on.
Did mine last week. Replaced the cruise deactivation switch on the master cylinder & installed a wiring harness jumper wire to it. Took less than 5 minutes to complete.
