Got a letter from Ford yesterday. It listed my EX and my 96 F-250 .Said they where concerned with the speed control deactivation switch leaking and causing fire. I'm guessing these are just for diesel models ? Has anyone had this fixed ? How long did it take ? At least I can drop one off and drive the other.
If you have a program installed in it remove it they will take it out ,for free & you will need to buy another one again !!!!!!
NOT TRUE!!!!!!! It's less than a 10 minute fix.............. Dealers will bother with seeing if your rig is chipped or flashed. It's a waste of their time for the minimal amount of money they receive for labor on this recall. This is a simple small wire harness replacement and nothing more.
Less than 10 minutes. Involved a technician putting in a harness that just clipped in the existing harness. Said it contained a fuse in case of a short from brake fluid leak...
Nope. They've had the recall out for years on the gas vehicles and just recently added the PSD's too.

Yep, the problem lies in the cruise control cancel switch and how it's wired to the brake master cylinder. The switch and brake fluid are kept apart by a silicone seal that flexes when you depress the brake pedal. This is how the cruise knows to auto-cancel when you hit the brakes.
These seals crack and leak, some brake fluid sneaks past and into the switch. It shorts, and without a fuse, can light the brake fluid.
The total number of vehicles that are affected by this single recall, cars and trucks, is staggering. A lot of folks just remove the harness until they can get a dealer appointment, but you lose cruise control while it's unplugged.

I've got an '01 and the cruise just recently went south. Doing some online investigating and here I am. I'm curious whether this seal you mention is user serviceable or if the whole MC has to be R&R'd. I have noticed a funny popping sound when letting off the brake pedal lately. I don't know if that has any relation to the problem or not but both issues seem to have appeared at more or less the same time.
If I understand what I've read so far I can head out to the garage in the morning and 1) Check to see if fuse #34 is popped, 2) Check to see if the recall has been done by looking to see if there is short wire harness extension attached at the MC connector.
I'm assuming that if #34 is popped and I replace it and it pops again or shortly thereafter, I most likely have this leaky seal issue, correct?
As an aside. I just bought the truck about a month ago. It's an '01 Limited with the V10 and all the standard goodies that go along with that. So far the in-dash 6 disc changer has decided to hang on to all the CDs that are in it and tell me to pound salt if I try to eject or play them, and the cruise has headed south for the winter. It's also fairly noisy in that a lot of the back area trim pieces rattle when on a bumpy road. Other than that it is better than excellent condition cosmetically with no noticeable road rash, no rust of any kind, and an excellent interior. The clock showed just shy of 79K on it at purchase.
I needed a people mover ( me, wife, mother, live in family friend, 2 kids and 1 dog) that could do it in comfort and still haul a load. My 01' V10 Super Duty could haul the load but not the passengers, despite being a 4-door, so now it's taking a break in my garage.
Looking forward to adding some convenience items such as an Offspring Auditory Suppression System (DVD player/screens so they'll shut the h3II up) and multiple Perimeter Surveillance Nodes (cameras) so my Japan born Japanese wife can hopefully move more than 5 feet without running over the barbeque, my 4-wheeler, or ME, all of which she's done in the past. Sometimes stereotypes are there for a reason.

My mom...bless her heart...born and raised in Japan, fit the stereotype. Thankfully, she no longer drives and I take her everywhere as her primary care-giver.
