Hey guys.....so at slow speeds and when swerving hard side to side i get a clunk from the front end. I've already done upper ball joints (they were bad)....but can't find ANY loose parts in the suspension or steering......anyone have any other ideas?
is it a 4wd? I heard a clunk once in my front end that is likely an actuator/vacuum issue. It was preceded by a light grinding noise at highway speeds.
Or... have you checked ALL the drive line parts? I had a drive shaft mount bolt work loose once that resulted in an alarming clunk at odd times. Lots of suspension parts (bushing especially) that are loose or damaged make noises like that...motor mount, wheel bearings? Stray cat?
I've had that for years now, just as I come into my housing estate there is a series of bumps that will always set it of, initially I did the same by changing ball joints on the arms, it has been like it for a long while and we can't locate it. Mine is a 2 wd with 150000 on it so no doubt there is some whear somewhere.
I would put money on it being the front sway bar end links. Just for a test remove the end links and go for a drive.
I've had them where they have felt tight, but are the source of the noise you describe. I just disconnect them, and if the noise is gone, then I know its the links. Also I would put in new sway bar bushings at the same time, because they wear out as well.
I had a clunk on my front end and it was the sway bar bushing. I agree with Peter, disconnect the links and go for a test drive. At least you'll be able to run it out if it still makes the noise.
