You lucky snothead. I wish my truck got 20 on the highway. I drive it easy, too, but it doesn't make a difference. It's either bad or worse. These 300's have a mind of their own I'm telling you.

Paul you know I love you man but sometimes I wonder just how much drunk posting you do. LOL I appreciate your kind words and support. It's unfortunate but we do live in a politically correct world. We all have to abide by this to some degree but I make it a point to flex / bend / brake the rules (within reason) when I can. I just believe common sense should over rule politically correct garbage. I won't intentionally hurt anybody's feelings or anything but I do try and make a stand for what I believe isn't religion or politics but COMMON SENSE, which is failing.
When people tell me "Happy Holidays", I always reply with a big smile and a loud Merry Christmas!"
God bless you too Paul. Buncha good guys and galls here on FTE.

leave berwyn md, and run hard to almost heaven, 6 cyl bills neck of the country

That may be a pretty steep climb! My Dad (now 84 yrrs old) used to take the fam outta Baldy-mur (how they pronounced it) 4 - 5 X a yr, to Aunti's in Hagerstown for summers and holidays. Cumberland Cap seemed pretty high to this kid. I immagine THAT drive to be about the same? on mpg as the "city" as you explained? Wadda U think?
BTW: happy holidays to all.

Paul here

as a 20 + former crane operator i have more exp than i EVER wanted up and down here and there with real heavy equipment. 95% of our rigs were american, built in shady grove penn. everyone had a JAKE brake. American style.man! what a decent system. but,Grove sold out to a German co.(Krupp). The last crane i ran before my illness forced me out was a German Krupp .instead of a Jake brake, they utilized an exhaust brake or retarder if you will. i understand, or will wager, that many of you guys know this design. To those of you who not!. when it is all said and done, it is really nothing more than a big butterfly 12 volt solenoid actuated , installed directly in line in the exhaust pipe.i was taken aback when i saw it. it does WORK, but in my op.it comes now where near an American Jake. Why all this, its an option for gas pickup trucks pulling any appreciable weight, which also includes every thing brought up here. There are kits around the country, for retrofit, but they are pricey fellas, big$$. i say, the horse sense, the can do attitude, and the mechanical ability that has been brought forth here over and over again, makes it feasible and/ practical to simply build your own, keep the cost down, for exp. use a choke cable. open and close by hand. etc etc.in my eyes, there are legitimate mechanical issues with choking your exhaust to obtain braking. i believe a new thread would be useful for anyone who might give it a go. i will not because of my propensity to digress, among my other faults. i honestly would enjoy the DISCUSSION, i just cannot go first.MR bill,i got away from the bottle some time ago. i am glad i did. Bill, i take over 15 different drugs, twice a day.a lot of very serious hard core stuff to manage my systemic lupus erythemotosis. they do affect me,i am embarrassed about it, i watch for it,and ten other things.sometimes it shows. frankly, i deeply appreciate your heads up.it tells me that i need to work harder,a stronger reality check before i post. again. thank you bill, i,m on it. Mr ghost, i recently came back from a 4 month visit in carthage MO.family stuff. man i fell in love with your state.for many valid reasons. Mr chris, we have kin in all three states mentioned here. for exp. my Mother grew up in the Cumberland gap another exp of the big mans work.hey i still have two of those efi manifold take off starter pipes. to support the cause.got to go now. remember my attitude . its all good. i have never had a problem anywhere on this site period. quietly and respectfully, later paul.

Hey Mr. Paul, thats alright man, we all understand taking medication. Now I know! I just thought maybe you were hitting the bottle.

I'll be in trouble if I ever have to take serious meds. Just Nitequil makes me act stupid! My heart goes out to you Paul.
