IMPORTANT: Links and info about new Ca. Diesel Smog
Well it is true. Those of us that live in California will have to smog our diesel's as of the first of the year.
So I have taken the part of educating yall on what is going to be required.
I have found some good links and info regarding the subject AND will be having an in depth conversation with my friend John Rood of John Rood Smog Shop here in Santa Cruz.
Anyone els that has GOOD information on this subject please share. Please refrain from spreading rumors.
Good thing it is so easy to swap over for the test and swap back.
The problem is, there are many mods we do on a regular basis to these trucks that will now be considered illegal.
Fuel line mods, filter bowl delete, in tank mods, exhaust systems, air intake systems, 38R upgrade, injectors, CCV mod, coolant filtration setups...the list goes on and on.
It's flat out ridiculous.
I'm going to have to buy a K&N FIPK setup and swap it onto my truck and then my Excursion just to pass smog, because the AFE setup doesn't have a CARB cert.
And I know they'll have a cow over the custom tunes.

If they can tell you have those in place they must be planning on disassembling your truck, LOL.

Coolant filtration and 38R are in plain site. In-tank mods and injectors there's no way of knowing...but you get my drift regarding how **** they can be.

Yeah, I get your drift and I would be just as pissed. To bad you guys have to put up with that junk down there. Maybe this will get people off there butts and make them aware of what's happening.
How would coolant filtration be illegal? And as far as the 38r, they would REALLY have to know what they're looking at. It looks mostly stock, I think.
Alot of the smog enforcement personnel there have alot of training in spotting mods.
I had a buddy in Soviet Kalifornia have a smog cop pull him over, and actually started taking his car apart and writing him tickets. He pulled the intake tube off the turbos and wrote him a ticket for non-stock turbos because he knew enough to spot the differences in the compressor blades even in the stock housing. This guy could spot a WW easy on our trucks, never the less a 38R.
Anyways, he came out with something like 25-30 tickets, and they towed his car. He got it back and alot of the tickets were challenged, but I don't even think about vacationing there anymore. Add to it the stuff they are pulling recently on top of it...like the big screen TV ban, lmao.
The thing that's scary is alot of states want to adopt Kali's rules.....and all because people don't pay attention to what's going on...

Because it's California.
Why is a K&N filter ok but not others that are washable like the K&N? Because K&N has paid to have their product "certified" to get the all important CARB cert number, but others haven't.
It's all about big government trying to regulate us even more, while also getting income from companies who want the CARB cert.
