Two Options- Confused and Need Help...

So I'm looking for a C6 tranny to put behind my 352.. One guy has a C6 behind a 390 (so he says) and it was newly rebuilt this year and he converted to a 4X4 so he doesn't need it any longer. He is willing to let the tranny go for $300 alone. He wants $800 for the tranny, motor, and rolling chassis with a Dana 44 rebuilt.

Another guy has a 1965 F100 with a 429 bored to a 460 with a C6 behind it. He has had it a while and says it doesn't smoke and runs strong as hell. He wants $1000.00 for the entire truck. Body is still straight but needs work. I would transfer anything good to my 66 anyway.

What do you guys think?

I was thinking of going for the 2nd option as I can swap both the motor and tranny in my truck (if the motor is still good of course) and swap my motor back in the other truck and sell it and get my money back.

Or should I do option #1? Damn.. I'm confused... What do you all think?

Thanks

Neither. Look for a 73-76 F100 or 150 with a 360/C6. You need the auto column, will get power steering & disc brakes along with good candidates for rebuild in the engine & tranny. IMHO

just playing devil's advocate, what about those people who like the looks of the original column over the later ones, and also prefer manual steering (yes I know once you get in a vehicle with power steering you wonder why you even bother with manual, but I've noticed that it doesn't bother the younger guys much, they like that feeling that they missed out on by being born after manual everything)

LOL... you have Options when doing the column you can just bolt up the 73-79 donor or you can shorten the original by around 2 inches or so.

There is another option.
Use a power steering column from a ''69 - '72 truck that was originally equipped with the non-Bendix power steering box.
It will be the correct length, and looks almost identical to the '65-'66 steering columns.
The major differences will be:
1. You will need to cut a **** off the top of the steering center shaft to get the earlier steering wheel to fit.
2. The dash - column bracket is flat, and you will either need to use longer bolts, or swap it from your original column. This swap will make the later column look original, by the way.

1966/68 F100/250 2WD and 1969 F100/250 2WD before serial number D96,001: Bendix P/S.

1969 F100/350 2WD from serial number D96,001, 1970 and later F100/350 2WD: Ford P/S.

The same 3 spoke steering wheel was used on all 1961/66 F100/250 2WD / 1967/70 F350.

It's also the same steering wheel as 1960/63 Falcon/Comet & 1966/72 Bronco.

The A/T shift collar is the same 1961/72. The Ford replacement collar for the original fits: 1961/77.
